If only a legit number 1 C with secure contract status was available, then Lindholm could slide to C2 and we would be the strongest team down the middle in the NHL.
Nah, Mangiapane wasn’t worth it.
Oh yeah and salary cap. Oh and- we are not allowed to talk about it.

I would love to go after Alexander Kerfoot. He is playing behind 2 superstar centers and I think he has a lot more to show and the Leafs need some help on the backend. Not sure what it would take but would consider a Hanifin for Kerfoot and their first rounder.
Would help our center depth tremendously.

Eat Bread was offered in a proposal? Or wanted by the Sabres? Where did you hear that?

Mangipane alone wouldn't have got it done
and talk about it but you don't have a clue what was offered or what Buffalo wanted so it doesn't really matter.
also, the guy hasn't played yet

Jeff Marek's new blog "Rink Fries" lists players he has heard mentioned in trade talks around the league. Couple of CP favorites on the list this week, including Giordano, Gallagher, Toffoli and Foresberg:
Quote:
Mark Giordano: With Seattle looking more and more like a traditional expansion team I think we’re all wondering what the play is for Giordano here? The believed ask by GM Ron Francis to stay away from him at the expansion draft was a first and a third. Too rich for Calgary. But you wonder if Giordano’s thinking about a shot at the Stanley Cup and the Kraken are looking at their roster and wonder who they had to flip to lurch their program ahead.
|
Quote:
Brendan Gallagher: Has mused openly about not being interested in sticking around for a rebuild. He’s a heart a soul player (with great underlying numbers so both camps go home happy here), would be tough to part with, but teams dream about having this type of player in the mix.
|
Quote:
Tyler Toffoli: Much like Gallagher, if the Habs go the tear down and rebuild model does Toffoli want to be part of it at this stage of his career? This is not what he signed up for when he joined the Habs.
|
Quote:
Filip Forsberg: For me, so much of Nashville’s future is about the decision GM David Poile makes on Forsberg. Trade him and we're looking at some type of rebuild (competitive or otherwise), keep him and they’re going for it again.

The Gallagher and Toffoli comments seem more like speculation than something Marek has heard, based on the amount of work that "if the Habs tear down and do a rebuild" is doing.

Te bigger problem with getting either Gallager or Toffoli by a contender is their continuing cap hit going forward.
It's getting harder and harder to move cap for value as teams have smarten up to the value of cap space.
Calgary may well have cap problems next year if they can sign Johnny and Tkachuk, it gets even harder if they get one of Gallager or Toffoli. And it's the same for most other contenders.

Spector’s hockey responded to speculation if Patrick Kane makes sense for NYR and if the Bruins should shop Bergeron.
Looking at the standings the B’s find themselves 10 points back of a division spot while battling hard for a wild card spot and also have 3 games in hand but it’s an interesting notion. If the B’s continue to stumble would you guys be into a Bergeron rental depending on where we sit around the Olympic break/TDL?? He has a modified NTC and is in the final year of his deal so he almost surely is a rental and I’m sure the cost would be heavy but Bergy as the 2nd line Center with Coleman and Mangiapane sounds intriguing.

Spector can’t see the B’s shopping Bergy but man it’s a fun thought!

I don’t know if Bergeron wants to move, even if they miss the playoffs/barely make it. The bruins are generally a competitive team and they probably are back in it the next year. I look at him as a player who will retire a Bruin, especially since he has already won a cup.
That aside, if he becomes available, He would be one of the better rentals we could get.

This is how Spector sees it as well and honestly at this point Bergy has earned the right to dictate his finally years in the league and/or remain a Bruin for life. That said the thought of Bergeron and everything that he would bring to this team is a dream I don’t want to wake up from lol.

I see the same but even bigger problem with the Flames this year as I did in 2019 when they were solid. Tough to see them making long term moves with the business they need to take care of this summer. The Tkachuk, Gaudreau, and Mangiapane extensions will be tough to get done but adding another big ticket via trade may make it impossible.
This is the most asset rich the Flames have been in a few years however with some pretty good prospects, and multiple picks in the second round upcoming.

The Flames could really use another top 6, right shooting C/W with some term left on his contract. Left shot is acceptable I guess, as long as it's an upgrade.
Just really don't want to see them give up assets for a high priced rental.
Pretty slim pickings though, if you look around at the bottom of the standings rosters.

What do you folks think it would take to get Toffoli & Chiarot from Montreal - with half salary retained?

Well if Montreal is reportedly expecting a first for just Chiarot alone I’d imagine the ask would be pretty substantial.

It's becoming more and more apparent that the need for a 2C is much more dire than the need for another winger. Trading Monahan would make the situation even worse.
Would much rather have someone like Yanni Gourde than Toffoli or Bergeron.

I think a top goal scoring winger could work instead of a center. It would allow us to move Tkachuk to the second line. My pipe dream would be Laine. Please bring in a PP specialist defencemen at the deadline at the very least.
