Here’s a primer for Canucks fans.

The Steve Dangle Podcast did a bit on Benning's Greatest Hits and it was shocking how bad he was at his job.

I don't think he was quite as bad as Chiarelli but he was pretty bad for sure.

Sigh. NHL is such a recycle bin league. A 72 year old Jim Rutherford is not what any team needs today.

Rutherford may be respected within the old boys club, but his work on the Penguins may show that his time has passed him by. I don't know what the Canucks answer may be, but it isn't Rutherford. If anything they should've beaten Montreal to the bunch with Gorton. Anyway, many questions relying on a guy who is pretty old.

yeah that was my first thought too. Very much an old boys club and it's incredible that the same old guys get hired over and over again.

that being said, I don't hold Rutherford in high regard so I don't him on the Nucks at all.

If I was a Canucks fan I would be happier with Rutherford-Boudreau than I would be with Benning-Green.
Rutherford has not been afraid to make some big trades recently so could still see some roster shakeups this year

Conversely you will never find the next great GM by hring recycled mediocre ones. I would be okay with finding a young up and coming GM rather than old guard guys like Benning.

Lots of smoke to it being former Canuck AGM Laurence Gilman.

As long as that rookie GM is allowed to pull out the "Blueberry Direct Line" big blue phone in the office that Benning had, I'll be fine with it.

I don't understand why NHL teams keep recycling the same people and expecting different results.
JR has been one of the very worst managers in the league for the last 10+ years and should never be given another opportunity.

 Canucks fans should be livid.

Why would you want him teaching a young GM how to conduct his role?

As long as Rutherford was honest about the mistakes me made and passed that wisdom along, I'm not sure why I'd have an issue with that.

Hard disagree.

JR's moves in Calendar Years 2015 and 2016 were worthy of a GM of the decade award. he completely transformed that team's roster with a combination of trades and callups leading to B2B cups.

He screwed up a couple years later, especially that Jack Johnson acquisition that never made a modicum of sense, but if anyone is going to trade some of the Canucks undesireable assets to build a team appropriate for the modern NHL, I'd take a gamble on the guy who virtually defined what the modern NHL is.

Also, as POHO, he may still hire some young blood to be the Canucks GM.
