It's going ok but we cannot buy a win. 5 ties and a couple losses where we deserved a better fate.

My boy is in U18 NBC div1 and we are getting destoryed. Most of the teams are filled with kids that should be at least div 1or2 contact but may have decided they want NC. Its to the point where my son is ready to leave the team because all the negativity.

My son and his buddies decided to play Rec.

He usually play Div 1 or 2 his buddies Div 3 or lower.

He wanted to play with his friends.

He says the hockey is pretty easy but loves playing with his buddies.

Mission accomplished.

And thats the important thing that they are having fun with their buddies. My son ended up on a team where he barely knows anyone. He’s played with 3 of them before but 2 of he hasn’t played with for over 3 years and another was 1st year Atom. Plus some of the kids don’t have the same hockey IQ as my son, so my kid is frustrated when his teammates are not where they should be or not doing what needs to be done

My sons minor hockey team from Saskatoon is considering registering in an outdoor tournament at the GlenLake Hawks U13 Green 2 Winter Classic” at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex outdoor rink in Calgary

Any input from Calgarians of the tournament and facility?

This is the facility, it is located on the SW edge of town. IIRC, they have an outdoor covered full size surface with an ice plant.

If you guys come look for hotels in the south, Heritage or further south.

Hockey Calgary used to have an Atom tournament in February called the Breakfast TV Outdoor Classic, which was hosted on ODRs in the city, usually in the early morning. IIRC, it was -20 some years that tourney was hosted.

Here we go again.

If you had an upcoming tournament in Canal Flats, or anywhere in BC, it is cancelled. (At least until Jan. 31).

We had one in Fernie for Jan 22.

Honestly though, I was probably not going anyway. It’s a heck of a winter drive to just go get shut down with COVID cases while you are there.

It's just a week away, but I wonder if the Mac's U18AAA tournament could end up getting cancelled as a result of this? The wording of the BC tournament ban seems to also ban travelling for tournaments, which, if so, would have a huge impact on the Mac's tournament, as there are quite a few BC teams participating.

Oohh, great question. That would be huge blow to the tournament.

It’s sad to see the Mac’s tourney having to shut down but hopefully they can get it going in April.

I wonder how long before Hockey Will he shut down itself. I know my son’s coach is making the kids aware that it could happen

One of our big U18 and U15 tournaments the East Coast Ice Jam the second week of January was cancelled this week as well. Not unexpected but very disappointing for the kids.

We have also had all games postponed at this point only allowed to practice. At least at the U15 level he is still allowed to practice they have suspended all activites for U13 and down.

It's going to pan out the way it did last time, where the CBE moves classes online for January and that automatically triggers a suspension of youth sports. Meanwhile, kids in surrounding communities continue to go to school and play sports.

Someone is going to win Esso Minor Hockey Week this year only having to win one or two games with how quickly teams are going down with COVID.

The Esso Minor Hockey Week committee should have cancelled the tournament like the Esso Golden Ring Tournament committee did.

The votes are in.

Blackfoot Chiefs will be re-named "Wolverines Hockey Club" starting next year. We'll keep the same colors but they will be re-doing the logo and jerseys and all the branding.

They are shifting away from any reference to geography, similar to how Lake Bonavista/Midnapore merged to become the Knights Hockey Club a few years ago. Probably makes it easier in the future if they have to do any re-alignments or neighborhood shifts.

The positive is that all kids get to keep their home/away game jerseys this year and we can do any modifications we want to them.

Our team took the opportunity to put the kids names on the backs of the jerseys. It was a nice surprise for them to start the new year.
