Might be that Tre passed on Toffoli, or at least making a competetitve enough offer, the first time under the impression that some internal players were doing to develop into that spot. eg. Dube taking a step forward. Whereas now we're looking for someone to really take the reigns on the third line.

I believe at the time a scoring forward was of lesser priority for him than Markstrom, and then Tanev. By the time he could look to a guy like Toffoli it was too late.

I know many are down on Monahan, but hard no on moving him out until at least the summer if you deem that something that needs to happen.
He is under renovation right now and the big reveal will come playoff time. I think by then he will be a much better player than he is now.
He still wears an A and moving him could really disrupt a room in which many things are going right.

If they do go out and get Toffoli, I hope they keep Monahan too. Would love to see how they play together in the NHL.

Adam Fox is a good player, but he's not a Flame now is he?
A lot has changed for the Habs between the time Toffoli signed and now.
Dube+Zadorov+1st for Toffoli+Kulak. Would Montreal be interested?

I’d rather move assets for someone else’s Sam Bennett. There’s gotta be someone out there that just isn’t fitting somewhere that could pop here. I love Backlund but the offensive starts #2C is wide open for the taking.

Treliving passed?
You know the Flames don’t get first dibs on every free agent right?

I’m pretty sure Dustin brown was not a fan of Sutter.

Well first of all guys like that are rare. Karlsson was more of a late pick, Schenn was still a 50pt guy as a winger, and we're all familiar with Bennett's mishandling.
On that note though, Nico Hischier is the one name that keeps coming to mind for me. I just don't know what the cost there would be but I really like the player.

The entire Kings online community was talking about trading Kopitar at the deadline this year. That would be a going-into-the-playoffs move that I'd love to see the Flames make.

If there's one person that would never want to play for Sutter again, it's Dustin Brown lol

Guy can still play too.
Lindholm - Kopitar - Backlund down the middle is something I could get behind.

Still a 10 mill cap so considerable salary would need to be going the other way paired with salary retention for the following 2 seasons in order to be able to fit in the big 4 contracts.
I like Kopitar but that contract paired with being on a divisional for makes it seem like it couldn’t be a good fit.

The sooner the better though.

Oof, I didn't realize he had two more years at 10 mil. The way they were talking sounded like he was UFA at the end of the year. That makes it way harder. Maybe if there's some indication that we won't be able to sign Johnny and Tkachuk it would make sense.

That's the only person in the league who would make Monahan look faster, so that's a plus. Sort of. In a way.

Yeah a shame he won those 2 cups. I bet he really hates Sutter who turned him into a very valuable player.
