Fantastic game! Based on the way the games went, the last game against then Pens could have been the 2-1 SO win and this one the 4-0 win - but just glad to see the Flames get the 2 points that they deserved tonight. Can't be happier with the way they've been playing this year!

Can you guys even imagine is McDavid had a sure breakaway and was hit into the boards without the puck? There would be a summit about changing the game

Flames 2 Penguins 1 (SO)

- Backlund with the overtime winner
- Markstrom solid in shoot out to battle Jarry for the win
- Gaudreau ends his point streak despite hitting iron twice
- Flames head out on road halting losing streak at one.

If we could fix Monahan line. Lets try Monahan Backlund Coleman line and Mangi Dube Pitlick line.

Backlund gets all the highlights for the winner but the Flames lose if Gaudreau doesn't score too

I wouldn't touch the top six right now though. Unless we can add a 1C in that Barzal tier it's pretty much as good a top six as you're going to get.

Markstrom stole two points in Pittsburgh so it would have been only fair for Jarry to steal them back tonight.

Not sure if it’s a pattern but the Flames have been making other goalies look good the last couple games, though tonight Jarry was just outstanding.

And whining about the refs, I didn’t see anything worth calling that was worse than Backlund’s penalty. Coleman stopped skating on that breakout, you’ve gotta push through the check to get the call. And then Backlund high-sticked a Penguin with like 5 seconds left. Would have been game over on the OT PP but the refs decided not to call that one. Flames need to get a little more inside if they want some calls.

I'd say they both made him look good early (Backs) and he legitimately stole a few later into the game (Tkachuk, Johnny).

At least it was a mix of the two, and not just the Flames launching potatoes into the pads and crest.

I actually quite like this…

I’d like to see enough depth to slot Pitlick to the 4th line, rotating in the lineup with Lucic/Lewis…

(Not that he’s been an issue, but just imagine how solid that bottom six would be if Ritchie was the answer for that line…)

He he, may be. Actually Monahan can't carry puck and can't drive the game at the moment. I hope Backlund and Coleman will help Monahan to do his thing and collect some garbage goal in close.

Whine and bitch about the little things, if you want about trivial things, but...

Through a quarter of the season, without hesitation, the Flames are the hardest working and best battling team in the NHL.

Team defence and goaltending win the end game! Top of the league in both !
