Like his accusations against his ex?

There’s plenty to go on here. He was a gambler - that’s why he was in debt. He is a forger - admitted to it. They other accusations aren’t exactly a stretch.

Bottom line is that the sharks are happy to rid themselves of him which says a lot after what they did to get him.

I don't necessarily think that it does.

To be clear here, I think there is ample evidence to show that Kane is a despicable person all on his own, and I have no idea how much, or even if his endurance of racism was a factor in this. But I also think it is naive to posit that two black players on the same team must have been treated and regarded equally on the basis of their skin colour. It is also naive to think that just because Byfuglien is black this means he would have always come to Kane's defense in instances in which he was a victim of prejudice owing to his skin colour. It could very well be that racism was a contributing factor to his treatment by his Winnipeg teammates and coaches, and that Byfuglien either turned a blind eye to it because of how awful Kane is, or he could simply not have noticed for whatever other reason.

We just do not know one way or the other.

It does appear that Evander Kane does have quite a few personal issues and maybe too many for any team to deal with.

But if the Flames were interested in acquiring him I don't see how without first a face to face with the GM and Sutter to lay it all out on how things will be going forward. That may be the issue here to begin with.

Evander has likely run out of chances after many years. He is damaged goods and past being considered a reclamation project.

Here again - do we not think the Sharks have had similar discussions and that's why he is where he is now?

It's tough to say though and know that. The Sharks also took on Erik Karlsson who had similar issues and that didn't seem to work out so great now. Not that Karlsson is a bad person or player.

I think Darryl and Brad even have ways of communicating that may be a little underrated.

The Oilers could also be a destination being they have to be all in.

Flames still likely need to add some depth scoring in the top 9 if they are serious about a prolonged playoff run. That has been evident in almost every loss this year: outplay, outshoot, out-chance, but struggle to outscore the other team.

Given cap realities and how difficult it is to move players out and in, the team really should be looking at every possibility, including this one. Kane at 50% could be a great add that addresses one of the teams biggest weaknesses.

I'm with those that are saying he's paid the price for the forged passport, and he isn't the first person that's struggled with but found a way to overcome addiction. And I'm not even going to go into accusations that come out when a marriage breaks down. The fact that he's struggled to fit in with any team thus far is certainly a flag to me, but honestly, some of that can come with time and maturity and being in the right situation with the right team leadership. Flames seem to have more of that now than they have at any point in the last few years.

I'd give this a chance and Kane another chance. I hope Treliving and Sutter are at least considering it and doing their due diligence around the possibility.

Anyone holding E. Kane to a higher moral standing than the rest of the hockey world for being a gambling addict and forging a vaccine card is out to lunch. Lets look at some of the other notorious problem children of the NHL:
  • Jagr had the same gambling issues as E. Kane and was also a notorious womanizer.
  • Patrick Kane has had multiple issues related to physical and sexual assault.
  • Tony Deanglo is a very vocal right-wing nut job.
  • Jeff Carter and Mike Richards had severe partying issues that got both of them kicked out of Philly.
  • Tyler Seguin was kicked out of Boston for his partying issues.
All of these players, except for Deangelo, have cup rings and long careers, and there many more "problem children" that could be listed here.

Scorned (and crazy) ex-wife and occasional questionable life choices aside, E. Kane is exactly the type of player on the ice that the Flames need to fill the last Top 6 winger spot. Treliving should be working the phones damn hard to score him on a good deal with salary retained. Getting a hard-nosed 30-goal sniper for $4-5M for the next three years would be a great deal.

Plus, when was the last time that Sutter let a "problem child" wreck his team?

I actually agree with the post except I don't think the player is the type of player we need in the top 6. E kane is a puck dominant shoot first lhs LW. We need a distributing, 2 way RW (RHS if possible).

On the other hand, they have as good a team as anyone, and the team is playing bloody well. Tony DeAngelo is possibly the best bang for the buck free agent signing this off season. So I wouldn't be surprised if they get Kane for nothing, and on ice he plays better than he ever has.
I don't think it's that unique.

There's clearly value to be had if you don't care about the PR hit with Kane and DeAngelo. It works for most of the Southern US teams which don't have a ton of media coverage and next to no national coverage. A team in Canada or North East US would get trashed in the media for weeks for it. A team in the Southern US may get an article or two and perhaps a passing mention on some of the US debate me sports shows and then it passes.

To be honest I suspect a lot of the concern with Kane for NHL teams is more about this fit in the dressing room then this stuff. This is the 2nd team where his teammates have stated they don't want him around (Winnipeg before).

I think he'll be back, and soon. He's too good of a player for no one to take a chance on him and while I totally agree that he's not got a track record of being a great human being, I also don't agree with punishing people forever. He served his suspension.

As to fit with a team, the Canes are basically willing to do anything to try and get attention and win, and as much as his conflicts were high profile, there is no way he has played in the league this long without friendships we don't know about and people advocating for him right now. Someone is going to roll the dice

Expect he goes to the A for a week or two, crushes that league after a couple rusty games and gets traded with retention shortly. Hopefully not in the West because for me he is easily one of the best wingers in the league.

I don't think I have as strong feelings as many others here one way or another, I think there is a chance there is quite a bit more under the surface with Kane (E) but that is speculation. I don't know

at any rate he has also had a long career (already logged more games than Mike Richards for example) and some of the guys above Richards, Carter, Seguin things more or less clicked (as I recall) with their 2nd or 3rd chance or destination. we are passed that now with Kane aren't we?

Yup. It was reported that only Timo M wanted anything to do with him.

Doesn’t make even remote sense for the Sharks not even a shred of logic in this post.

Sharks eat 3.5M for 3 years while taking in 6.375M in near dead cap for 2 years and get to trade their best prospect as well?
