Shaw guys always say that the Aquos' are the best looking TVs they see.

Theres still a chance I pick up the 37 Aquos at costco, but slim....since 37 is too small for me. And I sit 2ft from it. When I saw the difference from 37 to 42 this morning, I knew what I wanted.

I went into Visions, found a salesmen that looked like he knew his stuff and told him I wanted to buy TV "X". I tell him I want to deal with Visions as they have always treated me right in the past, but then I tell him that I worked for insurance company "Y"(not the company I worked for, just some random company that came to mind) and said insurance company has a prefered vendor discount with Future Shop(or Soundsaround etc.) and I could get TV "X" from the prefered vendor store at cost + 5%(which is what the actual discount was). So sure enough I asked if they could do the same deal for me, buddy asks his manager and 10 minutes later he is writing up the invoice, I ended up saving $300 off the lowest price I could find anywhere in the city...worked out well....might be something someone wants to try...nothing to lose.

No he didnt, and he really couldnt because I happened to know what companies Visions was prefered for and made sure to say I worked at another company that they didnt handle. If you want to try it tell'em you work @ Kingsway.....they use alot of smaller shops for their preferred vendors.

Nice ill try that out if I happen to be in one tommorow. Oh, is it true that it will help if I walk in with business attire as well? thats just what I hear. Does it matter if Ig oin with my jeans and hoodie?
Right now im very tempted to pick up the 40 Sony Bravia, but everyone always tells me not to and get the 37 Aquos at costco for $1299 I still want that Acer though, 42 inches!!! but the thought of having to ship a 71lb tv if anything goes bad is a total dealbreaker to me.

I'm a little biased, but whatever you do, strongly consider buying it from Costco.
Their return policy is just too good to pass up. You get the thing home, and are unhappy, you can return it. Simple as that. They may give you a little grief, but they get credit from the vendor and it's more important to keep you as a member (where the company makes the vast majority of its money) than to bicker about a simple TV.
The whole return policy for electronics is expected to change soon (to 6 months instead of simply being a gray area/indefinite period of time, similar to the changes made in the US), so keep that in mind also.

I agree with you Ro and to me that is why I bought my last TV there. Its so nice having that piece of mind for 1yr knowing you dont have to deal with shipping the tv out, and wait god knows how long for it to be fixed.
Right now I would like the 42 Aquos but its too pricey for my blood...so I think Im going to settle for a 37 again and get the Aquos at costco. I cant decide by thinking, so ill have to go to the stores again this morning and play around with them. I just hear far too many people recomend it to me. Why im buying another tv the same size as my old one is beyond me lol.
Im still going to take a look at the 40 Bravia for $1668 and Acer 42 for $1529, but ill most likely get the Aquos (price and costco factor are a huge reason). I was about to buy the acer yesterday, because I really really do want 42'' (especially after seeing it in person WOW haha), but just thinking about how i would have to ship the tv to ONT if needed to be, was worrysome. Even though mind you, Ive heard great things about acer but still...its a big risk.

Indeed, one of my inlaws exchanged a DVD player there after two years.

A have a Acer 24 inch wide LCD for my PC, I love it if your concerned about the quality of that name. It is just a computer monitor though, not a TV. Does come HDTV ready though.

I've mentioned a similar method in the past. Phone up a store, and ask to speak to their comercial sales depatment. When you get connected, tell them you are building a house with (Company X) and the builder said to talk to them about buying electronics from the comercial department.

Bump- to ask Devon which TV he ended up going with.
I returned a piece of crap Viewsonic today and decided to upgrade to this beauty, in light of the discussion in this thread:
32" Sharp Aquos from Costco.ca
It should be here in a week- I'll let you guys know what it looks like when it gets here.

Be very wary about buying Toshiba DLP, there are serious bulb-life issues. I have the 52HM85 and the bulb blew after 3 months. The original bulb is cover for 1 year, but the replacement only for 90 days. I am closing on 10 months on the new bulb. My fingers are crossed.
Don't get me wrong, the TV is fantastic, but there are more than few case there the bulb only lasts for months at a time with a replacement cost of three to four hundy per bulb.
There is a reason why DLP is on the wane....
