Although, that would require this team to start scoring more goals which promises to be a very difficult task for a lot of guys on this team right now. Outside of 3 or 4 guys who've been carrying this team offensively, literally everyone else could contribute more especially since the ice times don't swing that heavily at the top, it's pretty evenly balanced.

Also, the PP sits top 10 right now, so that's not really the problem either compared to even strength where 80% of the team needs to pick it up because even an extra goal or 2 here or there would result in a 10-3-3 record instead of 8-3-5.
Really shows how slim the margin is between being an elite team and being a playoff bubble team.

Flames used to be the king of OT wins. Now they're the ####s! I really wish the Sutter defensive style would win all the games in regulation. With these low scoring games, they're more likely going to end up costing the Flames in the end if they keep giving up points.

Do they just fine all cross checking penalties now? That didn't seem malicious.

Intent isn't strictly necessary. I thought it was dangerous. OTOH, the refs took a long look at it and kept it at 2m.

Don't recall it, but was it near the boards, was Gaudreau in a vulnerable position, was the play essentially past the contact? All of those happened with Backlund.

as for the elbow, it should be and it won't be.

The games that the Flames seem to struggle with are the ones where we are taking untimely, penalties early in the game, usually in succession. It throws everything off (player usage, getting into a groove) and it prevents rolling out four lines effectively and getting into a good flow. If we can get better disciplined as we are top 8 in penalties taken in the NHL- we may see less trips to OT and more regulation wins. In order for the Flames to be successful, we need to roll four lines evenly and effectively and you can't do that if player's like Backlund and Coleman are on the PK for many minutes a game.

The lack of discipline last night is a bit of a surprise from a Sutter coached team. The sequence in the first period when Backlund took a dumb cross checking penalty followed by Mangiapane ripping the stick out of a players hand followed by a dumb Tkachuk interference penalty was really bad.

Yes, Darryl wasn't a happy man on the bench.

Power plays on this trip:

MTL: 2-5 regulation loss
TOR: 1-3 OTL
OTT: 6-5 regulation win
PHI: 2-5 OTL

Apparently the Flames are a much dirtier team than their competition.

Pretty hard to score enough goals to win games in the current NHL when you aren't getting many PPS

Tkachuk tapped a players stick and he dropped it...pretty terrible call

Flames are the middle of the pack. (13th I believe in PP opportunities) In fact, they've had more power plays than the oilers.

Habs and Canucks are leading the way in chances.

Maybe you are used to listening to Oiler fans and assume everything is a whine.

I simply noted that the Flames have had very few power plays on this road trip (far fewer than the opposition) and as a result, they haven't scored many goals.

How many PPs the Oilers have had is not relevant here.

Amazing that this was fined and Mcelbow gets nothing.

Not that these fines mean much but it seems that the NHL follows the Flames closer than any team.

He followed that up with a legit penalty for whacking the goaltender's mask which was dumb.
