Swedens first female PM resigns after 7 hours.

Hours after being tapped as Sweden’s first female prime minister, Magdalena Andersson resigned Wednesday after suffering a budget defeat in parliament and her coalition partner the Greens left the two-party minority government.

The government’s own budget proposal was rejected in favor of one presented by the opposition that includes the right-wing populist Sweden Democrats. Sweden’s third-largest party is rooted in a neo-Nazi movement. The vote was 154-143 in favor of the opposition’s budget proposal.

Andersson, leader of the Social Democratic party, decided it was best to step down from the post more than seven hours after she made history by becoming the first woman to lead the country.

”For me, it is about respect, but I also do not want to lead a government where there may be grounds to question its legitimacy,” Andersson told a news conference.

Andersson had been tapped to replace Stefan Lofven as party leader and prime minister, roles he relinquished earlier this year.

Earlier in the day, 117 lawmakers voted yes to Andersson, 174 rejected her appointment while 57 abstained and one lawmaker was absent.

Under the Swedish Constitution, prime ministers can be named and govern as long as a parliamentary majority — a minimum of 175 lawmakers — is not against them.

What a mess.

Almost every European country and the US currently have in their top 3 some kind of a nazi-friendly/proto-fascist party.

(Although it's not quite as threatening in Europe, as a top paty still typically only has a support base of about 30% of the population instead of 45-55 like in the US.)

No we have literal nazi's here, the kind who call themselves national socialists, have as their stated goal to end democracy and setup a unified white Scandinavian nation, march in pseudo-military parades and openly celebrate violent attacks on ethnic minorities and leftists, and while their political wing obviously is more subtle, it's obvious that both Sweden Democrats and Perussuomalaiset (Finnish nazibuddies) have plenty of key members with really close ties to these openly nazi groups.

(Not all party members of these ultra-conservative are nazi's in suits, but they tend to be pretty fascism friendly at the very least, and extremely openly pro-ethnic-violence.)

So Democracy working as intended. Sucks for her, but if she couldn't hold the coalition together then she probably isn't fit to be the Prime Minister anyways. If you don't have the support of the lawmakers to pass a budget, then you can't govern.

The difference between the budgets sounds like the difference between a Liberal budget and a Conservative budget.

I think you're attributing far too much reason and intelligence to individuals who would willingly align themselves with pseudo Nazi ideology.

I mean...if we embraced one of the Nazi ideologies of eliminating arbitrarily decided weaker elements of our society...I dont think most Neo Nazis in this day and age would make the cut.
