Flames and Heat combined records so far this year: 21-3 7
Outscoring the opposition 106-62
Pretty, pretty, pretty good

Sabres are trash and the Oilers took them lightly
Red Wings are decent but no sure thing yet, probably don’t make the playoffs (Oilers took them lightly again)
Binghamton Senators - COVID postponed right after
Bruins are overrated one line team on the decline. Oilers toyed with them

Does this mean certain posters will finally admit that they have no idea what Jordan Sigalets job entails and will stop blaming him for not succeeding with the parade of average to below average goaltending thats come through town?

For the first quarter of the season to have gone so well is truly awesome! Now focus turns to keeping the pedal on the metal against western conference and divisional foes! Chicago up next who’s actually settled down a bit and has been finally been getting solid goaltending from Fleury so the Flames shouldn’t be taking them lightly, really big game before a well earned three day break between games.

Arseni Sergeev: 95.1%
Daniel Vladar: 94.5%
Jacob Markstrom: 94.2%
Dustin Wolf: 93.1%
Adam Werner: 92.2%
Daniil Chechelev: 90.4%
Tyler Parsons: hasn't played
Those are some darn good save percentages across the organization.
Hard not to give Sigalet credit at this point.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
How is Sigalet responsible for those numbers?
Labarbera is on the ice with the Flames goalies. The Heat coach (Speer?) handles his end etc.

Best goal differential in the league and amazing to see both goalies getting it done. 7 of 11 wins shutouts that is remarkable

I find this to be an interesting topic. When reading game threads you see a lot of the praise Sutter stuff, which is no doubt true and deserved, but it’s obviously much more complex than that. Simple straightforward explanations are the easiest but don’t tell the whole story.
Sutter is obviously a massive addition but he’s clearly not the only reason. He can make a team more than the sum of its parts but he can’t make gold from a turd. He needs the right pieces with the right skill sets to make his system work this well.
I’d also factor in:
- the ongoing and continued maturation of the core, incl Hanifin and Chucky
- contract seasons for key players, this is huge imo
- comfort and confidence of goaltending
- key additions (and subtractions) from the locker room
- return to regular scheduling post covid
- coaching stability
- low expectations after failures
- buy in from leadership
And those are the things we know about. Maybe Backs is getting better sleep now that his baby is older, maybe Johnny is more confident now that he’s married etc.
Fans like to think there’s some magic bullet out there that solves all the problems at once with a simple straightforward explanation, and I get why, it just doesn’t tell the whole story.

Yes, it is difficult to assign praise and criticism for these types of this.
But Sigalet has apparently given input in the acquisition of all of the aforementioned goalies. It's more of a talent evaluation thing than a coaching thing, at least for Sigalet.
The goalies are playing in 4 different leagues, yet they're all putting up good numbers. I'll give credit to Labarbera and Speer(?). But I'll also give it to Sigalet, Button, Treliving, etc.

Don't forget 24yo Adam Werner with a 1.98 GAA and a .922 save % with the Heat.

I highly recommend watching the condensed game on NHL. It might as well be Vinny Barbarino doing the play by play. Seriously can’t stop laughing.

Um, no? If anything, it kind of proves the point further IMO. Flames goaltending gets better after Sutter (more defensively sound system) + Labarbera (new goalie coach), while Sigalet is now in charge of overlooking basically general managing goalies. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not, but it certainly doesn't disprove any of the criticism on Sigalet before.

I want to only remain positive because the team is doing awesome.
But someone inadvisably plugging sigalet... lol give your head a shake. It is not rocket science to see the change in organizational strength miraculously appear when Sigalet is no longer actively coaching our goalies.
Label him a goalie scout, he seems genuinely fantastic at scouting. Chain him up in the video room though.

His role in the organization has changed.
I admit I didn't like him as a goalie coach, and many goaltenders who came into the organization seemed to decline under his tutelage. Not sure why, maybe a difficulty in being able to demonstrate what he was trying to tell goalies he wanted them to adjust?
But he's good at evaluating goaltending talent, which is what his current position entails. He's been put in a position to succeed with the skillset he has, and he's doing just that.

I will say that he appears to be much better suited to his current role, whatever it entails, than he was to his former role as the day-to-day on-ice goalie coach.
He seems to be a better "big picture" guy than a fine details guy.
