Agreed.

I’d also like to see him without Monahan in the playoffs. In the past, 13 and 23 would put up boatloads of offense when the games were loose and everybody is running & gunning.

But as soon as the calendar flipped and the games became very tightly checked, the offense completely evaporated from this duo. As good as both looked running and gunning, they looked equally bad in playoff like games. The rush chances were gone, they turned pucks over and they were consistently hemmed in their own zone a lot.

With his new line though, it’s completely different. Even if they’re having trouble scoring that game, they’re not hurting you in the defensive end. In fact, Tkachuk and Gaudreau haven’t been scored on at 5 on 5 yet this season and the season is already 20% over, that’s actually hard to even fathom.

That’s how you win the in the NHL, especially in the playoffs. When you have a player who’s 3rd in the league in even strength points and has yet to be scored on at 5 on 5. That’s winning hockey.

Without Gaudreau... what playoffs?

Also he has been a hell of a lot better than Lindholm in the playoffs.

Calgary also wants to make the playoffs this year.

With hiring Sutter, there was no thought of punting the season by trading their play driver.

Of course that depends on what trade options may have been out there.

Johnny’s name has been floated out there before and Calgary was never offered what they considered at the time acceptable value.

Again, there is so many facts that are unknown.

Lindholm is not getting a $11 million contract, big difference. What is the point of making the playoffs if there is no chance at the cup? Maybe Gaudreau will finally figure it out and lead the team deep in the playoffs, but if he can't and the Flames sign him long term for $11 million then you pretty much know there will be no cup in the next 10 years.

That’s agreed. It was an unfortunate time for his MNTC to come up - after he’d underperformed albeit in two very odd seasons. Hard to get good value and hard to get teams who are all re-assessing their own rosters to commit.

If I’m guessing I think he will re-sign but at something a little higher than was discussed last off season (but not Panarin money). If he wants $11 that’s a tough sell. No way Treliving bargains right now though when he’s hot though.

If you don't have Gaudreau here you can pretty guarantee yourself no playoffs for the next 7 years.

Don't let that Timbit brainwashing get to you. He hasn't been that bad in the playoffs considered he was saddled with two oversize luggage as his linemates.

I hope we get an out of the blue Johnny signing so we can all just be happy (lol like we'd all agree on the contract and be happy).

Monahan has outproduced him in the POs. As far as luggage goes that is. The other one was Lindholm. He’s terrible now?

God damn. Did you miss the past years of playoffs?

Monahan turned into invisithornton and Lindholm after going beast mode in Game 1 against the Avs did nothing in the next 9 games.

but whatever, you thought Gio is still useful. lol

Gaudreau in the playoffs in 14/15:
9 points in 11 games. Sent the game to OT against the Ducks with less than a minute to go.

7 points in 10 games during the COVID playoff, which had its own set of strange circumstances. And Geoff Ward was the coach.

Colorado dominated him and everyone else - he had 1 point in 5 games.

Blame Peters for that if you’re going to blame anyone - he had no answers for anything the Avalanche were doing that season. If he hadn’t been found to be a racist POS the next year, he would’ve been fired before seasons end anyway.

Gaudreau is fine in the post season. He needs more help, because he’s not built like Iggy.

Who also needed another elite player, which we never got him.

But let’s say Johnny will only sign for 8 years and Panarin money.

Do you give it to him or let him walk?

And if you wait until the off-season to make that offer, it might be too late, as he’ll be a UFA then.

I don’t know the answer to that question.

I suspect that if Johnny keeps playing like he has, his price will not come down.

If he says “I only sign for $11.6Mx 8”, you fax him the contract.

People want to blame Johnny but Monahan and lindholm have not done much in the playoffs. Surprise! They depend on Johnny. The whole team does. Mangipane is the only other player that can generate his own chances and that’s lately

Only one team can offer him that, so you make him an offer you can stand. If he doesn't like it, he can see if anyone tries to top it with a shorter term. Then you can dicker with him over the value of that 8th year.

I saw them. And I can also count PO points. The top line underperformed. But Monahan outproduced Gaudreau.

You obviously haven’t read any of my posts about Giordano. Yeah, he’d be useful on this team still, any idiot could see that. I also advocated exposing him. I’m not sure what axe you have to grind against Gio nut you;re on your own there.

I’m waiting for a while before I do it, and maybe even PO performance. He’s not a UFA until July 1. If he is PPG but does zip in the POs I have a serious think coming.

The most impressive thing about Bread is that he’s rarely if ever played with Johnny his entire career.

Never really given a shot on the right side of the top line.

Never plays #1PP.

He makes his own luck.

I’m not faulting Gaudreau that much in the POs when everyone underperformed. I’m just not blaming his linemates. Seems like a cop out to me.

It seems to me that’s it’s extremely unlikely to re-sign a UFA between the end of the playoffs and the start of free agency. I sure hope that hasn’t been the plan.

Depends on whether they are allowed to trade him at deadline even if they are playoff spot. If the answer is they are not allowed to trade him , then you pretty much have to give him anything he wants . You can deal him a couple seasons later and retain money if you have to. Letting him go for nothing is the worst possible outcome.
