Both are equally as annoying. The optimist sees no wrong and the pessimist sees no right.
In the GT alone you have both extremes and I rather someone just call things the way they see it honestly.
We can watch 10 replays of a Flames player high sticking someone and some people will still say it's a terrible call.

All I said was we have no idea what Eichel is going to be and than Vegas has to clear another 12M
that is not "vehemently defending the Flames, regardless of context."
If you are calling out a poster by name that is a shot, don't ##### foot around it

Assuming tone over text written on the internet is a bit silly in general. Unless someone is lacing their content in emojis or expletives, tone isn't always apparent. Their "angry" tone might actually be "I am making dinner and I posted this thing without fleshing out my thoughts" or "I'm at work and this person on the internet I'm responding with copious amounts of breadth to won't be in my thoughts two minutes later because I really should not even be on here right now"

It’s a legitimate point as well. Whatever they do to clear space for Eichel can get considered in the overall cost of acquiring of Eichel. The trade still has many elements left to unfold so I’d hold off on being completely upset by it even though I am in the group that is super disappointed that we didn’t land Eichel.

Honestly though let’s get this discussion back on track! Eichel doesn’t even play for Buffalo anymore so why are we talking about him in the game day thread?

How about our goaltending duo atm! What game does Darth get on the weekend?

I honestly still wonder if you see Reilly Smith go to Buffalo once Vegas gets healthy as a "cap dump" and then Buffalo flips him for assets at the deadline.
As a bit of a second part of that trade.

We know what the player went for - a middle six forward, a 1st round pick that’s going to be between 16-32, the 17th overall pick in 2019 and a 3rd rounder.
A team of professional hockey executives could’ve surmised what it would be, and put together an offer that would’ve been impossible for the Sabres to refuse.
But they didn’t.
So here we are.

By this logic we could have traded a 3rd overall pick, done deal
You have to acknowledge the player was someone they really wanted not just a mid 1st round pick

If 31 teams should have been interested and the offer wasn't good as you keep stating, do you think it's fair to criticize 1 GM? Or maybe the risk and value was exactly where it ended up being.
Most teams had 6 months to send in an offer and Vegas sent in the best one. 30 teams couldn't beat that offer. 30 GMs and hundreds of executives didn't think he was worth it to offer more than what Vegas did.

The only forwards that clearly beat Tuch all things considered are Lindholm and Gaudreau.
The 1st round pick may well be later than Vegas' at this rate, but in any event will be similar. They like Krebs better than any prospect. you'd have to give Zary + Pelletier or Coronato.

I'm curious what things are you considering when making this statement? That's basically saying if Tuch came to us, he'd be our third best roster player?

I'm looking at his production, his age and his contract, not where he'd slot on the roster (that said, he'd be top six on this team barring his injury).
Think about what Buffalo wants to do and where they are looking. Is Tuch better than Tkachuk? Not as a player, but he's signed long term, is young, has great production at the price and is a home town guy in Buffalo, whereas Tkachuk is only worth his rental trade value (which probably includes retention). They get a late first round draft pick for him, maybe.

Has anyone watched the Sabres this season? Any explanation for why they are doing better than expected?
I like the look of that Coleman Backlund Mangiapane line. That is a very tenacious group.
Dube Monahan Putlick is another story. Was hoping for more from all three of them, though Dube has had moments and the other two are coming off of injuries.
This is a tough season opening schedule and it would be great to have two long road trips with winning records so hopefully this is a really good game from the boys.

I think this team needs to be blown up. I thought it before this season, which is definitely shaping up to be a one-off.
But if they weren't going to do that, they needed to give this group the best possible chance to actually accomplish something.
The best chance to accomplish something doesn't include Zary, or Pelletier, or even Coronato. It doesn't include the 16-24th pick in 2022.
There was a risk. Undeniably. But the reward was a 25 year old Nathan MacKinnon/Auston Matthews/Johnny Gaudreau tier player under contract for another 4 years who would never come here otherwise, so it was worth paying more in terms of prospect capital, draft picks, and even players off the roster who could've been flipped for more of what Buffalo wants - futures.
The team that wins a trade is the team that gets the best player. We would not have been trading our best player, and would've been receiving the best player in the deal.
Eichel is going to be a Golden Knight for a decade. The failure to acquire him is going to sting for nearly as long, especially when we don't end up with any of the upcoming franchise players at the top of the draft because "hurr durr playoffs!"
