Also BC Ferries is pulling a ferry out service from Victoria-Vancouver in order to run cargo between Nanaimo and Victoria.

It’s so dumb, there are fuel trucks in Nanaimo, they’ll be on the ferry that’s running between Duke Point and Swartz Bay. I’ve got half a tank and that’ll last me at least 2 weeks.
Ugh..

Yup, the pandemonium was sparked by media sensationalized supply chain issues. Esquimalt is fully locked down with traffic clogging up every road there's a gas station. The colloid crawl from the base if full blown hell.
Lemmings being lemmings. If ppl needed to get any where for an emergency they'd be hooped.

I haven't read about the rest of the province too much but I suspect the biggest issues right now are obviously concentrated to the lower mainland. In my tiny little bubble here in the Kootenays not much has changed at all. Yet. I did notice tonight when I was shopping that the milk section was almost totally bare with a sign saying it was because of what was going on. Other than that it has been business as usual the past few days. Luckily. I think in my area over the next few hours or days the bigger problem is going to be the hysteria and hoarding of some people.

Do something about climate change or our infrastructure? Both probably.

Well it has been an exceptional source of local produce and meat pretty much for the whole west coast...for almost a century. The growing season is long and I cant imagine having this kind of fertile environment in basically a mountainous region is common without some find of land manipulation.

I'm surprised no one is chest thumping EV in such a scenario. I can't wait to get an EV in a few years to replace the second car. Being able to "fuel up" at home and using it heavily as a commuter car seems pretty awesome.

I’m more than happy to brag about my electric cargo bike that currently is our family’s main mode of transport.

Nice.
I wasn't trying to derail the thread, but if there might be a fuel shortage for a bit, I was kinda just musing out loud whether finding someone to carshare an EV might be helpful as a tactic to ride out the potential fuel shortage.

Yes. The electrical grid is failproof. Blackouts from weather related events never happen, especially in BC.
Combine that with the oh-so long range of EV cars on a full charge....

I meant that if there is a fuel shortage and an issue to transport fuel to the affected areas, that electricity might still be a viable option there... It wasn't meant as an attack.
I think the lowest range Tesla is still around 140km. But the average ones are around 400km on a full charge?

Nothing a portable generator and some jerry cans in your trunk can't fix. I call it the hillbilly hybrid.

Oh yeah, nothing beats the time it takes to just fly to Invermere. Around 30 minutes or so if you just go up and over the mountains (in a small single engine). Only thing that can hamper that plan is weather of course.
