I just got home, that was a lot of fun! And a pretty respectable crowd considering the weather. Every few decades I freeze my ass off at Commonwealth and it is TOTALLY WORTH IT!

30 years ago tomorrow I saw Danny Barrett to Peewee Smith in the Western Final.

Tonight Canada over Mexico in World Cup qualifying.

Those are a couple of great memories in that dump of a stadium.

I wasn’t looking at an updated standings so they were still at 11. Makes more sense now.

Canada was ranked 144th in the world in 2014. Mexico is 9th.

Just unreal.

Now #### off already, Panama.

No
No matter what, qualifying for 1986 will always be the one until they qualify.

Still have 6 games to go. They can be 4th with a single.loss and other results go against them. If they finish 4th they won't make the WC.

I predict if they qualify it will be the home game vs Jamaica.

Ya know, if Commonwealth was played on Turf, why not McMahon?

No reason outside of capacity.
Parking, access, sightlines, distance to the field, all better at McMahon. No seats behind the nets are the same. As is below average amenities.

Just got home from Edmonton… don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep tonight, way too excited still.

Well, other than that Commonwealth is part of the world cup bid while McMahon is not.

Also Soccer Canada has a long history of using Commonwealth, especially back when it had grass. It has been host to men's, women's and youth games for the various national teams for decades, including the Womens world cup in 2015, the U20 world cup in 2007, and the sold out friendly against soon to be world champion Brazil in 1994 (which we drew 1-1 if any of the new fans weren't aware!)

I am so stoked to see how much buzz this team has right now. I've never seen so many posters in this thread. Even my mom, who is not a big sports fan, texted me today to ask if I knew about the game!

I wish I could've been there at Leduc international when the Mexican team landed. Even the locals are disappointed when they come back from anywhere...and that's before the 45min drive.

In all the Iceteca hype...there are quite a few other aspects of Edmonton that are being undersold as factors in breaking a visiting teams will. River Valley tours and a trip to both Aldos at West Ed should be part of the home ground advantage.

Supposedly VAR is coming to the remaining games of qualifying. Game too late for Jamaica which was jobbed out a winning goal vs the US yesterday.

Honestly, they shouldn't be changing things up now that we're about halfway through the qualification. Who comes up with these things?
