It’s funny.
Florida has also went to OT 6 times so far this year. They are just 3-3 instead of 1-5.
Outside of that they only have 1 more regulation win / 1 fewer regulation loss than the flames and hence are 4 points ahead of them and first in the NHL.
Wonder if their fans are complaining that they are going to overtime too much.
Or maybe Washington who also have 5 OT losses, wonder if they see that as getting fat off loser points.
The Panthers, Capitals, and Flames all happen to be top 4 in goal differential in the league as well.
Guess what? Good teams go to overtime a lot because on nights when they aren’t playing their best they still find a way to keep the game close and get it to OT.

People are salty about getting loser points, and I get it, but think of it this way. The team is very good at 5v5, and in the playoffs, there is no 3-on-3 OT. As much as I'd love those extra points this is hardly a sign that the sky is falling

I see it, too, but when the genuine discussion is a rehash of the NHL points system I welcome the redirection.

This. It means you were in a lot of games and were competitive. 3 on 3 means nothing in the playoffs.

I like it. Not much to complain about at all.

Which is why they are complaining about OTL points

Just watched on PVR. Effort was sure there. By both teams. Great game to watch. Either team could have won.
Flames are fun to watch this year. I haven’t said that in a while.

Every. Single. OTL.
It's unbelievable. But Flames fans simply refuse to be happy about anything

Flames are now 6-0-1 against the Metropolitan division (the strongest in the league), outscoring them 29-9

Flames are currently 2nd in the league in goals against behind Carolina. D and goaltending are certainly doing their jobs so far this year, and our PK has been outstanding. Even the PP has been decent. If this team can get the offence going again, they're gonna be very tough to beat.

They are 9th in goals for and goal differential so well within the upper 3rd of the league

Glad the team got a point. Keep piling up those loser points. They will come in handy at the end of the season.
Sucks that the Flames used to be the best team in OT, only to completely suck at it for the past couple seasons. Andersson = no good in OT. Straight up no good at it. Should 100% be Kyllington. Honestly can't wait until Kyllington solidly passes Andersson on the depth chart in all situations.
Overall fun game though. Flyers' announcers are complete homers so I really wanted to hear their dejection if the Flyers lost. Oh well. Solid game for the most part and glad they got a point. Onto the next.

Teams records in OT and SO’s tend to be random from year to year, and will even out over time. But it may take a few years. But it’s why the same team can be great one year, and poor the next.

There was some old habits that creeped in last night. The turnoverrs in their own zone being a big one. Related, the breakout wasn't as crisp as it has been without the down low support.
I thought the Flyers were the slightly better team and carried the play for the second half of the game but it also felt either team could have won. Powerplays didn't help.
