Ability? Maybe. Positioning to do it? Not even close.

In his rookie year, Nieuwendyk scored thirty-one power-play goals, nearly all of them by tipping shots just outside the crease. In fifty years of watching hockey, I've never seen anything quite like it. Many players had the hand-eye coordination to do it, but nobody else had the knowhow and tenacity to do it so consistently.

I believe Nieuwendyk himself said he learned to do that by playing lacrosse every summer before he turned pro. Most hockey players nowadays don't have that opportunity.

I get what you are saying but he also had a little more net to work with. Hard to compare era's

I will say, the Flames have had great luck with their defensive prospects so far. We had our group of the big defensive prospects, and two are already playing in the top four.

I remember when I was so hyped on our pool when it included Pelech, Negrin, Aulie, and Erixon... That didn't work out so well. I guess Brodie was drafted from that era, but we certainly didn't end up with a very deep core via the draft.

Pavelsky is the best modern player at tipping pucks.

Something tells me Mackey is a keeper as well

Maybe Hanafin will go to make room on the left side

I like Hanifins game, but feel like we could land a big fish with him as trade bait.

Agreed.

We won't be able to re-sign all of Johnny, Tkachuk, Bread and OK58...so at least one big salary needs to move this off-season.

I don't think there will be much appetite for Monahan/Lucic/Coleman. Markstrom is still needed.

That leaves Hanafin or one of Johnny/Tkachuk. Hanafin could likely get us a top prospect and a 1st.

Mackey is actually older than Hanifin. At 25, we're running out of time quickly with Mackey, and I don't see him getting much time this year.

With how Monahan has been playing the last couple weeks I suspect that the Flames would have no problem moving him.

Ummm, I think Textcritic meant exactly the opposite. That Monahan has been playing well, therefore there would be interest.

Right. It is a bit poorly worded on my part, though. Apologies, Funkhouser.

I knew right away what you meant, but also realized the other way it could be taken like half a second later.

Team Sweden would be remiss not to consider Oliver on their Olympic Team. His ability to erase opponent rush scoring is gamebreaking.

Should probably be considered.

Hedman, Karlsson, Ekholm, Dahlin, Klingberg, Lindholm, OEL, Andersson, Kylington, Brodin? Am I missing anyone?

Gustav Forsling, he's probably been Florida's best Left defenseman.

Dahlin wouldn't get much consideration, he has been kind of meh.
