Gaudreau has 15 points and setup the one goal last night, doesn't make much sense to blame him for anything
defensive game is also greatly improved

And most people here know my thoughts on tachuck. 9 million a year for that guy. That’s gonna be more than iggy ever made a year. But will matt ever reach iginla heights of nhl dominance?
I think giving the kids on the farm a chance to play would be good this early in the season. Ruzicka over dube would be a good look. Dube is just so snake bitten at this level. He needs a chance to see the game from the press box.
Valimaki not playing is stupid too. Send him to Stockton then. Let him get PP1 time and build some confidence. For a dman that was drafted first round with offensive promise I haven’t seen much to warrant those projections.
Monny looks so indecisive and slow out there. Sad to see one of our better homegrown offensive players fall so precipitously so quickly.
Anderson is frustrating. IMO he could be so much better but he just is what he is. He is slow and doesn’t have very high ice iq. Sure he can battle a bit down low but his lack of burst is gonna see that matthews goal more often.
And what happened to our three on three magic? Was Brodie really that good? Sadly yes. We have so many slow players that 3 on 3 is a death knell for this group. Get used to loser points.
I still like Darryls approach and I think he sees the writing on the wall with this group. He knows they are gonna be in tough to make the playoffs with our pop gun offence.
The sky isn’t falling but regression to the mean is a thing. This group has had a few years together as they are built and I don’t see them turning a corner.
But hockey is tough to predict and growth isn’t linear. Gaudreau is still elite. Lindy is a strong presence. Eats bread is growing his game. We need some size up front Brad.

lol look who's back
just to shut you up, $100 says the Flames score 200+ goals...lets go big talker
and lots of players make more than Iginla...come on now, can't compare a contract from a decade ago

IIRC Iggy’s contract was very big as a percentage of the team salary.
Such bad takes in that post. Bring in Ruzicka? Complaining about Monahan of all people? Send Valimaki to Stockton (what are waivers anyway)?

Making the 200 goal comment every time they lose is getting so annoying
If he actually thinks it take $100 from me I guess
otherwise shut up about it because he is obviously just looking for attention.
Its like the poster who was going on about Seattle finishing above Calgary, until it came time to put something on the line

Look at past 82 game schedules. 1 or 2 teams every year score under 200 goals and it's usually 199 or 198. There is 0 chance this flames team scores under 200 goals and I would give anyone 5 to 1 odds.

I thought it was an entertaining game. And a pretty good effort for a team that lost a very fast paced and energetic game the night before.
Vladar was great, and it looks like we might have something there.
Lots of criticism about Gaudreau. But the fact of the matter is that scoring is hard in the NHL at 5 on 5. Most point producers put up a bunch of points on the PP, and use the PP to get rolling.
The Flames got 1 late PP last night, after 2 the night before. Overall, the PPs were 8-3 in the two games. I am not trying to blame this on the refs, but if you get 3 PPs in 2 games, you are probably going to struggle scoring goals.
My biggest complaint with this team? Tkachuk, and his propensity to stand still. But mostly, his blind, behind-the-back passes to no one. I thought he killed the top line last night. Hard to expect Gaudreau to generate offense 5 on 5, when Lindholm is invisible and Tkachuk is a selfish turnover machine.

^ per Ryan Pike, Gaudreau is 4th in the league in 5 on 5 points.
He isn't the problem.

Do you think the reason for Tkachuk's struggles have anything to do with playing his off-wing?

He also does not have ANY 5v5 secondary assists. He leads the league in 5v5 primary assists.

Interesting question.
I don't think so - I always thought he was good on the right side. And didn't he play on the right side in London too?
I like him on the right side, in the offensive zone, because he is good at taking the puck off the boards, and when he moves into a shooting position, being a left shot from the right side is very advantageous.
I think his problems stem from two things: 1) he isn't moving his feet enough, and 2) he makes too many blind passes, instead of just working a little harder, and making simple plays.
So no, I don't think playing on the off wing is the problem. I think those issues existed on the left side as well.

No, he played left side other than maybe on the PP. Mitch Marner played right side and Dvorak was the centre.
He was also pretty exclusively leftside when Backlund centered him.

The inconsistency of Tkachuk and Lindholm is the main issue on the top line. Need them to do things with Johnny's passes, like Kylington did yesterday.
Lindholm has stopped shooting, which almost depletes his usefulness outside of PKing. Not a big possession guy, so you need him unloading bombs when the puck comes to him. He has the best finish on the team since Mony fell off.

They stop shooting and start passing. Gives the other team more time and doesn't generate anything. They almost play like they don't want to be the one scoring. Have to wonder if Lindholm is injured, he is usually driving the play. Johnny can't do it all himself he needs a triggerman like he had in Monahan.

He doesn't need a triggerman.
He needs a multidimensional centre who can do be more than a "loose checking games triggerman".

Monohan is done in this league. He will never be a top six again. His body is shot. I appreciate his toughness in playing through so many injuries but he’s lost his abilities clearly aside from his hands in close.
Valimaki isn’t getting a shot and looks average at best when playing. He’s still on his rookie deal so hes expect from waivers no?
Why not bring in ruzicka over dube? Or Richardson? Dube isn’t scoring. Neither is Richardson.
I want this team to do well but this group seems to not have that extra gear. Unless they add someone where else do you see improvements internally?

I do. He’s shoehorned in there, and he’s constantly on his backhand, or facing away from the play (hence no look passes).
It’s not the whole answer, but it’s part. I wonder if he’d look better on the left side of Monahan, and Mangiapane or Coleman could move to the Lindholm line (and the other would play RW since they don’t seem to mind that side).

Valimaki is not waivers exempt this year. It’s not as simple as just being on ELC. The Flames actually have no exempt players up right now.
Why bring in Ruzicka over Dube? A. You sending Dube down to make room? B. Dube is way better. You ant to try him out over Richardson? Whatever, but it’s not a scoring role.
Monahan has been one of the better forwards over the last few games IMO.

They literally have 7 wins and 7 losses. I think you guys just want to sugercoat it too much. That 106 point pace is as a result of a crazy hot start. What we have seen in the last few games is concerning. Face it this team does not have the offensive fire power to do anything. This team might sneak in but i doubt they have any playoff success. I hope i am proven wrong.

We’ve lost 3 in a row but we’ve still clawed a point out of one of the games and still have 5 games to turn the trip around. No reason to panic, if the Flames hung on and posted a 1-0 shutout there would be no sky is falling posts right now proclaiming that this team is doomed for failure and is a mirage because of a hot start. Can we not be happy we actually had a hot start and don’t find ourselves behind the 8 ball early on? Every team goes through slumps even the great ones but I don’t think the Flames first slump this season is grounds enough to say they are effectively out of the 106 pace. Let’s just enjoy this part of the season and not get too high or low.
