I don't think they will be as humiliating as South Korea in the last olympics, despite having a team full of professional hockey players, still gotten blown out despite there being no NHLers.

You don't hear us whining when they wipe the floor with us in gymnastics and table tennis. Learn from your losses. They have over a billion people to draw from. Won't take long to be somewhat competitive.

It's going to be like when Panama made it to the World Cup. The country will go crazy when (if?) they score a goal. Not all victories involve medals.

This happens when you are the hosts. In Beijing 2008, China got destroyed in Handball, Water Polo, Field Hockey, Baseball etc...
This is an act of self-inportance from the IIHF.

This is just China's play to be good at everything but can't be. I'm sure when Canada hosted the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada got their asses handed to them in handball and soccer. The commies were sending pros.

Yep and we didn't even win a gold medal in those Olympics.
I hope teams are even more merciless on China now after this story.

Well, if you exclude the East German women who have since been proven to be cheating, we had a number of gold medals.

He has 20 point in 26 games. He also plays on a horrible team though.

Nothing about South Korea's performance in 2018 was humiliating. South Korea legitimately qualified for the Olympics via the qualification tournament, and and their small squad of Canadians all played in the Asia league for at least 4 years prior. Their Canadian captain played in the Asia league for seven years. SK also showed up to the Olympics with team that was mostly made up of actual Koreans that were developed in the Korean hockey system, they played hard every single shift, and didn't look too out of place against the big nations' non-NHL rosters.
If China replicated the Korean strategy of bringing in NHL-level coaching for their national team and developing their domestic Korean players over time, I don't think we could call 2022 an embarrassment for them either.
...but China formed their team in worst possible way and hopefully the Big 6 nations light them up like a Christmas tree.

It's too bad we can't change our lineup during the tournament. It would be nice to beat them with a team of only Michaels.

Korea fdid not face any teams with any NHL players and had a considerable amount of ex-NHL players plying for them. Also Korea had more prep time as there was no Covid-19, so how they were not able to squeeze one win was beyond me despite the IIHF doing their best to setup a koren win

I think it would be wrong to kick them out. Many of the players on that Kunlun team went over there to play so that they could meet the Chinese eligibility requirements. It would be pretty upsetting to see those players not get a chance now. Reading some interviews from guys like Brandon Yip, they don't care if they get blown out. They just want to be there

Bureaucrats paying off the team to put their kids on the team?

Saw this coming the day Beijing was awarded the games. Sucks we rarely get to see best on best international hockey and 3 of the games will be wasted on blowouts.

Hey China let's talk about the Uyghurs first and then we can chat about hockey.
