Default Tohsiba 52" DLP Bulb Went...

I've never experienced replacing these... anyone else have a similar TV? What's it cost and where did you go to get a new bulb?

Thanks

Start with where you bought it.

Those bulbs have a guaranteed lifetime I believe...Are you within it?

And sucks that it went during an HD Flames game...

Not sure. I think we bought it in May 2005.

No idea how many hours it clocked though..

Same thing happened to me. I have a 62" Toshiba DLP.

Toshiba has a 1 year warranty in Canada on bulbs, so it sounds like you're out of luck unless you got a warranty from where you bought it. I was told when replacing it that the bulbs in the Toshiba DLP's go out fairly quickly if made around 2004-2006 because Toshiba used a 3rd party bulb maker. They've since started doing it in house because of the short bulb life. Once you get the new generation bulb it should be good for a looong time. I think it runs around $30-40 without warranty IIRC.

My DLP was under warranty when the bulb blew. Whether you get it for free or not, they are real easy to install yourself.

Had a TV fixed by those guys over the summer. They're honest and will steer you in the right direction.

The bulb is easy to replace, there should be an access panel on the back. Shouldn't take more than 5 or 10 minutes.

Expet to pay at least $300, at least that's what they cost down here.

Wow, that really should be a consideration when buying DLP if they need to be replaced every couple of years.

My cousin had the same problem with his Toshiba DLP. The bulb went three times before he figured out that he needed a really good surge protector.

Yep, that's why when we purchased ours we also got the 4 year extended warranty, which also covers the bulb. I'm convinced it'll go out before the warranty is up, in that case it will have paid for itself.

I will be "making sure" it goes out before the warranty is up.

I view the extended warranty as the pre-payment bulb plan....
