Nope. A chronic spine injury and resulting surgery actually killed my mother when I was a teenager. To be exact, her reliance on pain killers and muscle relaxers killed her, but that was directly related to her injury. It's horrible seeing someone live with that kind of pain non-stop.
I couldn't imagine getting spine surgery and then playing hockey where the likes of Zach Kassian cross-checks you in the neck 5 times a games.

I'm ####ing pissed.
Treliving is an imbecile. Sometimes he pisses me off so much in interviews that I want to jump through the camera and strangle him for all the stupid ####ing cliche bridesmaid bull#### that spews from his long ass head.
Are these guys stupid? Like seriously...Tkachuk is going to fkn leave us now and #### off somewhere else and we'll we left standing there with our dick in our hand.
#### Vegas too, piece of #### team. I nearly hate those ####s as much as I hate the Oilers.
Don't you know how invested I was in this ####ing trade Tre? I've been refreshing the forums every 15 minutes for the last couple of weeks and u are gonna come in late, get my hopes up with a legit package then dog it and not make the deal? Do you even ####in know how to make a deal mate? You call them and say here's my players and in return, I get your player, you ####in dip####.
Get ####ed

I can do most of the things I could ever do, but not for very long at a time. Also, my neck has a very restricted range of motion, so I had to blow a lot of money on a vehicle with all the latest sensors and cameras and things to make up for not being able to do a proper shoulder check.
The bigger worry is that I turn out to have a condition, possibly genetic, which causes my body to produce new bone as a go-to response to injury. One of my neck joints actually did a fusion on itself (a doctor once looked at my X-rays and asked if it was fused surgically!), and my anterior and posterior longitudinal ligaments are both slowly ossifying. I also have large-scale boxing of my Achilles tendon on both heels, which makes buying shoes a challenge.
As you say, something not to #### with. I wish Eichel the best in his recovery, but realistically, he'll never be quite the same again. A natural disc suffers wear and tear every day, and has the capacity to heal itself up to a point. An artificial disc hasn't got that capacity. Eichel may come back fine, but sooner or later that disc is going to wear out, and what will he do then? Best he can do for now is hope it lasts until he's ready to retire.
I don't buy the MMA comparison. MMA fighters don't slam into each other while skating 40 km/h, and they don't have 82 bouts a year. That's a lot of strain to put on a prosthesis, and I'm not sure what plan B will be if it eventually fails.
What, not the negativity you all were looking for in this thread? Sorry for the hijack. We return you to your regularly scheduled kvetch.

He can relate. He was a plug playing D.
Now he’s a grinder of a GM who perhaps likes rewarding people who remind him of himself
Edit: but I am with Lanny on him potentially dodging a bullet

Entire thread thanked for the total overuse of the ####ing # sign at every ####ing opportunity!
I'm neutral, not negative or positive. I just let out a big sigh and moved on. To watch a game that was as boring as paint drying.

My next door neighbor is an ex-Washington State Sheriff and a ranked competitive pickle ball player (yes, there is such a thing). He's really fit and is a workout fiend. But, like a lot of cops, over two+ decades of wearing a duty belt he developed a herniated lumbar disc. He went in for back surgery in March, at the end of his pickleball season, and disappeared from the face of the earth. I hadn't seen him more than a couple times during his recovery and through the teeth of the summer. I thought he was just hiding from the oppressive heat and I'd see him as the new pickleball season opened up. But I didn't see or hear from him, and was kind of concerned.
So I'm out on "pick up" duty in the backyard this morning, before trash pick up, and I see his wife across the fence. I ask how he was doing and she just shook her head. His first surgery was disc replacement, and it initially started out great. His recovery was motoring along, then he started to feel pain and lose feeling in his leg. He went back to the doctor and discovered the implants had shifted and he needed a second surgery. He had it done three weeks ago and he's in a bad place, not being able to walk and basically being bed ridden. This is not the first cop I know to have had this surgery and not the first to have negative outcomes. Makes you appreciate the things you have when you look at people you know suffering. But that conversation quickly got me over any disappointment I had with the Eichel trade, as this is exactly what Eichel could run into.
So excuse me while I thank Brad Treliving for not making a deal where he trades away our three top prospects, a 1st round pick, and a very good hockey player in his own right for another very good but injured hockey player. Hockey is a game where depth wins more often than not, and the Flames have some very under-rated prospects coming up that can create some impressive depth. Not making this deal was the right thing. Hearing about the condition of my neighbor was all it took for me to understand how much risk we averted, and how much better we can be when these prospects find their way onto the roster.

Lumbar disc replacement is a million times different than cervical disc replacement. There's a crucial difference in weight bearing that the disc has to take on. Cervical discs are mostly about maintaining mobility rather than much weight bearing.
Just thought you should know.

Thanks man, I have a pretty good idea of the differences between the two. But I appreciate your low level efforts to add to the discussion.

You said that to a guy that specializes in the spine. Maybe he should give a university lecture on the subject. I know you “know a guy” though. Anecdote trumps expertise always.

I wish people would stop using that term. A certain individual completely ruined it.

Since this is a negative thread I will contribute. I know Eichel needed surgery and I feel bad BUT my son has also needed surgery for a long time now but because of Covid his surgery has been canceled and not rescheduled yet.
So basically just tired of guys like Marek making it seem like Eichel is on some kind of island dealing with this type of thing. If eichel was a regular joe he likely would still be in line for this surgery. Literally thousands upon thousands are dealing with surgery delays and cancelations. I do feel for Eichel but he is just like the rest of the people waiting.

Dodged a bullet there, total gambling, which fits Vegas right. Maybe he returns to his own self and then the trade is OK. Except they’re in cap hell.
Maybe, just maybe he does a full recovery and returns to… PPG player at best? For how long? And for 10m. Yea, nice problem to have I guess.
Still a ####ing gamble.
