Yeah you all seem to be pretty focused on Krebs when Tuch is a key piece to this deal. He's big, fast, solid 2-way forward with 25 goal potential, signed to a team friendly contract with good term, and he's a guy that wants to play in Buffalo. That's a slam dunk.

Oh Lebrun with the knife twist on insider trading. Says “there were people within the Vegas organization that felt on Wednesday Eichel was heading to Calgary” also confirmed that Tkachuk was never on the table

This makes it hurt so much more.
Honestly I know at some point you have to say this is my best offer. And Flames reported offer is 3 top prospects, Monahan, and a 1st already. But at some point I do wish they would just go all in.
"You need another 2nd on top of that, sure add another one"

Tkachuk should have been on the table.

It's all my nightmarish predictions are coming true....again.
"I bet Eichel ends up in Vegas"
"I bet the Flames are in on him and miss"
"I bet we find out after that the Flames were sooooooo close to getting it done"
Next up:
"I bet Eichel comes back in time for the playoffs where he doesn't count against the cap and along with Stone makes a mockery of the 1st round fodder Flames"

Actually, Fleury and Ramage, whom I specifically mentioned, both stepped up big time when Suter was injured in the playoffs. They split his PP time, and Ramage moved up to the #1 D pairing until Suter was able to return. So yes, they did actually win because their 4th line and 3rd pairing were as good as they were.

Again those 4 players you are talking about are a ridiculous measuring stick. By your definition there have been how many elite C’s in the history of the game?
|
If you're not even in the top third of #1 centres at a given time, how does that make you elite at your position? That's where Gilmour and Nieuwendyk were then.

No we need to hang onto Matty so he can take his QO next off season and then leave as a UFA for nothing in 2023.

Some hot takes in this thread. Super duper white hot level takes. I don't know how anyone could be a fan of the team after some of the stuff posted in here, and I'm a guy who posts from the dark side. Happy the Flames didn't make the deal. I think the team will be better off with the depth we are building. The team is only as strong as its weakest link, and the Flames are building critical mass in some surprisingly good prospects. Keep your chin up Flames fans. You may feel like this is a loss, but I firmly believe today is a win for the organization in the long run.

There is no such thing as a paper transaction to clear $9 million in cap space. If you put a player on LTIR, which is the only way to clear that kind of money, he must stay off the roster for 10 games or 30 days, and you have to justify it on medical grounds. That's not a paper transaction.

Maybe that was before Vegas upped the deal where we did not have the personnel to match.

More like making a mockery of the NHL's pathetic enforcement of the salary cap with respect to LTIR.
How much do you want to bet that Draisaitl will have a season-ending hangnail when the Oilers hit their first three game losing streak? Out for the season, replaced by the best two D left in Arizona to stabilize the Oilers' blueline, and miraculously healthy exactly in time for the first playoff game? And Smith, of course, will also coincidentally miss the rest of the regular season, replaced by an actual NHL-calibre goaltender. As long as there is no consequence for cheaters, teams with highly-paid players will use this every year to shore up their weaknesses and make themselves instant Stanley Cup contenders.
The cap was allegedly brought in to promote parity in the league. Where is the parity if not all teams are required to comply with the cap? The decision about when a player is ready to return to play should be made solely by an independent third party, and a team that cannot be in compliance with the cap when a player is ready to return should not be able to dress that player in the playoffs. Furthermore, any time a team plays a playoff game, the total of the cap hits of all of the players dressed for that game should never be allowed to exceed the salary cap.

So we almost landed Eichel at a discount without including Tkachuk
Fire Brad for not getting this done. Clearly the Sabres liked our offer almost enough to accept it WITHOUT Tkachuk involved.

The irony is that Kyrou was selected with the pick we gave up for Brian Elliott to completely crap the bed for us that one year.

I see the result of this fiasco as no indictment of the prospects the Flames currently have in the system. People trying to use this as fuel to further the "Treliving bad" narrative by arguing that we couldn't offer pieces enticing enough are probably some of the same folk who've spent the last several months lambasting Adams and the Sabres for their utter ineptitude and mismanagement.
Honestly, screw what Adams thinks about Coronato, Zary, or Pelletier. I'm glad we got to keep our s**t in the end, and hopefully Eichel returns to the ice playing like the Freddy Modin that Feaster shipped a 7th out for.

Tkachuk may well have not been on the table because the opening talks were “who from the Flames do you want to talk about”. The Sabres may not have expressed any interest in Tkachuk, or maybe even said “X,Y,Z but not Tkachuk (contract), Zadorov (skill), Coleman (age)” or something to that effect.
