How do you feel now that the Eichel drama has come to a close?:
- Pissed! The Flames are forever stuck in mediocrity and needed to make a big splash for a true #1 Center
- Dodged a bullet! Too much to risk for a player coming off a major neck surgery.
- On the fence.

100% rests on what Eichel is when he comes back...nobody can say anything else with certainty.
What if he never plays again?

What they did have was two legitimate (but not top-tier) #1s in Gilmour and Nieuwendyk.

Gilmour and Nieuwendyk are in the HHOF. That qualifies as elite, full stop. They were in their prime here too.
You just compared them to four of the greatest who have ever played the game.

So suggest different wording.
Or continue to complain about literally everything.

Vegas didn't "find a way"

I'm disappointed not because we didn't get Eichel. I'm disappointed that we always seems have lesser valued player or prospect than other teams. May be if we were a popular team like Toronto or LV, Zary, Valimaki or other prospects could have ranked higher.

How do you feel about missing out on Eichel?
- Happy we didn’t get him
- Would have been nice but whatever, at least we didn’t give up the farm
- Devastated, my life is over after I vote in this poll because I’m actually gonna pull the trigger, something that loser Bradley could never do.

Gilmour wasn't in his prime yet. He only became an elite centre in Toronto, after getting a surgical procedure to repair a constriction in his airway. After that, he had better fitness and endurance and could play a lot more high-intensity minutes, and it showed in his counting stats. He was never that player in Calgary, because he was physically unable to do it.
Nieuwendyk was a one-dimensional sniper in his younger days. He scored a lot of goals, but was not a good playmaker and was not good defensively. He, too, changed his game dramatically, beginning after he suffered that catastrophic knee injury in (I believe) '91. He never scored 40 goals again, but was a much more complete player. But he was never a franchise centreman.

Those were the elite centres in the NHL at that time. Gilmour and Nieuwendyk weren't.

I didn't even want Eichel. Acquiring him in a deal that included any roster players would have hurt the team on the ice for the remainder of the season, without question. And if he doesn't return to form, it would have hurt the ability of the team to build for the future.
So why do I still feel so pissed off? Lol

For sure this is the crux of the trade. Basically came down to, do you want to gamble and get one of the top 10 players in the NHL who could be damaged goods or is the risk too great.
The thing I admire about Vegas is they are willing to take these chances, as much as I hate them I agree with the philosophy. It's an entertainment business, so mix it up, give us storylines and take chances. This calibre and age of player will never be on the market again for this price in the next half decade.
The flames trotting out the exact same roster as last year minus Gio plus Coleman and expecting a hugely different outcome, to me defies logic a little.
I totally get the younger fans today who are really disappointed and am a little less sympathetic to the older "everything will be fine" fans who seem to have accepted a mediocre product and a low risk strategy because it could go wrong if you take the chance. That being said I understand that Treliving might have done everything in his power to make change and just been unable to do it because the Sabres love Krebs so much and were just unwilling to deal with him.

Maybe but you are saying Eichel is in that class with the all time elite lol
Eichel prays he has the career of Nieuwendyk

Apparently Nieuwendyk only qualifies as "legitimate". I guess Eichel would be sub par based on that classification?
What a weird place today.

You should probably take another look at the roster, and the record thus far

Discrete = separate
Discreet = quiet, close-mouthed
