Played in Canada before joining Chelsea youth program according to that Soccer Canada article.

Quote:
Ugbo, who represented England at the youth international level and was also eligible to represent Nigeria, was a two-time UEFA Youth League winner with Chelsea FC (2014-15 and 2015-16). After playing for Brampton East SC and Woodbridge Strikers SC in Canada, he grew up in the Chelsea academy program in London, England and while on loan at Cercle Brugge scored 18 goals in 30 matches leading to a permanent move to KRC Genk. This season, he has already scored four goals in 12 matches across all competitions (Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League and Beker (Cup) competition as well as UEFA Europa League).

Not a clue but he was eligible for England and Nigeria and looks like many will consider this a miss on Nigeria's part

Scored 18 goals in 30 matches in Belgium last year, 4 in 12 matches in all competitions so far this year

Crazy how strong our depth is in attack now. David, Larin, Ugbo, Cavallini, with Davies and Buchanan also being able to play up top.

RIP Tosaint Ricketts' national team career.

I swear if Canada ever gets some top level CBs, watch out.

That's exactly it...offensively, we're shaping up really well moving forward (no pun intended), but I really hope we have some CBs in the pipeline, ready to make that next step. Our current guys make me so nervous. Could you imagine either of them marking a Cristiano? Neymar? Tough examples as most CBs would struggle, but even the thought of that terrifies me. There aren't really any game-breaking strikers in the Concacaf to see how they fare.

Maybe you just play Davies at CB...I feel like there is nothing that guy can't do

Is Arfield still in the mix for future consideration? I assume on pure ability he would crack our midfield.

Last I saw he wasn't part of the Gold Cup squads to ensure he had a full pre-season with Rangers and Herdman left him out after as he hadn't had a recent match for Canada (while leaving the door open). I am wondering if he is effectively retired from International duty and everyone is just saving face, or perhaps he may yet have a role?

I could be misremembering but I'm pretty sure I read on one of the Canadian soccer forums that Arfield & Herdman/Canada haven't necessarily been on the same page during Herdman's tenure and that Arfield hasn't been the best culture fit for what Herdman wants to build. I believe there was a bit of feeling of "we'll do it without you then" when Arfield missed the Gold Cup and they were still successful. I'd imagine (if this is true) that Herdman isn't rushing to bring him back at this point with how high the level of buy-in and camaraderie is amongst the team right now.

Again, not trying to be Orange Julius guy but it does kind of make sense given how things have played out.

I've read a lot of the same things and while they may be true, Arfield has not been getting many minutes at Rangers the last couple of months, so that's probably a bigger reason for him not being called. If he can get back into a regular starting spot at club level then we may see him in the january window, as he will have an advantage over players who are in their offseasons and winter breaks at that point.

My jersey I ordered on Oct 4 is still not here. Got an update from Canada Soccer store saying they now don’t know when it’ll ship. Yay.

I think Arfield's absence started by not committing to the early stages of World Cup Qualifying, and through injury and good form from other midfielders, it means he's the odd man out. A combination of a lack of minutes and a squad that has looked better than it has in 25 years, why would you want to disrupt that by bringing in a player who hasn't played with this group for 2 years? I think his lack of commitment definitely hurts his case going forward though.

Still think there's a place for Arfield in the squad, but right now, which midfielder would you take him over? Definitely none of Eustaquio, Osorio or Kaye. Piette plays a different role than Arfield. Maybe Wotherspoon, but he's been in much better form with club over the last 18 months and has some chemistry with the current squad as well.
