Just heard the news. I'm surprised this place is still here. Figured CP would have exploded by now.
Oh, and I hope this backfires on Vegas spectacularly. F*** that franchise forever.

Can we please have a moment of silence for Kevin Weekes' credibility.

It's pro sports.
Being embarassed by tank talk is hilariously uppity.
The Oilers fans this board makes so much fun of are enjoying their poorly constructed team still be ahead of our incredible start in the standings. Could they use depth? Yeah. Which is a lot easier than acquiring the pieces that give them an unstoppable PP. But I'm sure we can make fun of them for playing their stars 25+ minutes while we have a 13M fourth line.
|
Funny part is the Oilers didn't tank for McDavid though.
They were just still bad after their three previous actual "Tanks" landed them Hall, RNH, and Yakupov.
And being "Still bad" landed them McDavid, Draisaitl, and Puljujarvi.
And in the end that was all luck.
What happens if instead of winning the lottery in 2015 they stay in their 3rd spot and draft Dylan Strome.
Maybe the win the lottery in 2014 instead and draft Ekblad instead of Draisaitl.
I'm not sure people are talking about how the tank was so effective for Edmonton if their picks over that 6 year stretch were Hall, RNH, Yakupov, Nurse, Ekblad, and Strome.
Intentionally tanking is stupid. But Flames need to start leaning into bad seasons. Last year instead of trying to recover in the end and make the playoffs they should have just ran with Ward until the end of the year and hoped to get a top 5 pick.

This place would explode if Eichel landed in Calgary rather than in Vegas. Nothing exciting comes out of Calgary since 2004, unfortunately.

It would seem that Vegas was so in love with Krebs that there probably isn't much you can do to sway them another way.
Most of the time the team trading away the best player loses these deals. I think Buffalo looks to be taking a pretty big loss here unless the Vegas first this year turns into something real dandy.
Sometimes you can't stop bad teams and bad organizations from doing bad things no matter what you offered them to set them on a better path. Buffalo is exactly that.

We spent a first and 2 2nds on Travis Hamonic, but couldn't up the ante for Jack freaking Eichel?
Much disappoint.

As many on here have pointed out, I feel like the Flames were just used by BUF to put pressure on VGK to get the deal done.
I believe the multiple reports out there that Vegas was the furthest along in negotiations dating back to last week, and was basically at the "one yard line". They just needed some external pressure to push the deal to the end zone. I really don't believe that the Flames were actually at the "one yard line" in terms of getting a deal done.
Now that Adams has come out and started Tkachuk was never offered, it makes sense. If he was, we would have easily beat out Vegas's offer. What I don't like is the fact that I think we had the pieces to beat out the Vegas offer. Monahan, Valimaki, Pelletier and a top-15 protected 1st pick easily beats out what Buffalo actually got. I'm disappointed that this team weren't willing to give something like that up for a franchise center we really needed.
And I don't believe that Buffalo was so infatuated with Tuch and Krebs that they would have turned down Monahan, Pelletier and Valimaki. I feel like we just weren't willing to offer that, which in my opinion was the wrong decision.

I am actually relieved that:
- Buffalo chose to trade with Vegas instead of Calgary; or
- Treliving chose not to trade with Buffalo; or
- Treliving didn't offer what Buffalo asked; or
- Buffalo didn't take what Treliving had offered; or
- All of the above.
My only concern is how it will affect Tkachuk's and Valimaki's attitudes going forward and knowing that they have been offered. If this was a pure speculation by Weekes, I hope Treliving speaks publicly and denies the rumour outright. However; if it was true, this will sting. These "leaks" if planted purposely to push the counter-bids from competing teams, are unforgivable and should be punished.

Marek has a doctor on his show that specializes in Eichel's injury. She said most likely he plays in the playoffs, not earlier than that. And that's if everything goes well. There is a lot of risk with this trade.

I'm in agreement with posters that are saying that you have to have a partner to want to make a deal. Of course.
But it's a bit disingenuous not to take that to it's full conclusion and also then state that means the GM hasn't put together a team and org that has good enough assets, in order to attract that deal.

No Stone, W. Karlsson, Eichel, Pacorietty, etc.., for a long stretch of this season. When healthy, they are a contender. But if they don’t start picking up some wins, they may be too far out of it by the time they are
This year, they’ll be able to use some LTIR trickery with Stone to get Eichel under the cap.
Next year, Vegas could be in a ton of cap trouble with few positive trade value players to get under the cap.
If Eichel returns to form, this is a home run, but there is a lot of risk here.

This is hardly surprising and I doubt the Flames were really ever serious contenders based on what they were prepared to offer. If it is true that Tkachuk was never on the table, the Flames did not have attractive enough roster pieces to trade (which they would have had to do for cap reasons).

Really not concerned about the attitudes of guys whose names were rumoured to be in a trade with a superstar centre. The team is trying to improve and needs to move good players to do that. Tkachuk in particular has shown to be quite invested in business of hockey. I’m sure he understands.

I really think Buffalo owner and GM and franchise have put a big shine on their turd of an organization and reputation around the league. Extra shiny turd, hope it sticks with them.
