Strickland has ties to the Tkachuk family.

So might be more the Tkachuk families feelings about going to Buffalo more than anything the GMs are talking about.

Although if Tkachuk isn't willing to extend then that might kill that right there unless Buffalo has a team to flip him to.

I want Eichel as much as anyone, but if we give up Tkachuk and not have Eichel for months until he’s ready which could honestly be the rest of the reg season, then why do it? Who would play top line the Lindy and Johnny? Seems weird to me that we’re ok with sending Chucky when we’re doing great but wouldn’t do it in the summer so we’d have Eichel way sooner

But Buffalo still has another full year beyond this one to flip Tkachuk. Sure, he is more valuable earlier on, but there is no reason the Sabres couldn't recoup a tonne of value for Tkachuk any time they wanted to,.

Why? Because Eichel would be in a Flames uniform for four full seasons. That's why.

Well I think many here would have been even more ok to send Tkachuk to Buffalo for Eichel in the summer.

And you do it now because, sure it may hurt for the time being, but when he joins the line up, it gives us a true #1C, and if Lindholm stays on our “first line” then we still have a lethal 1,2 punch along with Backlund who would probably be one of the best 3rd line C’s in the league.

That would give the Flames a deadly group of Centers

Legitimate concerns. That's why Tkachuk for Eichel made more sense to happen before the season started and the Flames went eating up cap space on bottom pairing D. However, the future cannot be dismissed either - are we better with Eichel after this season then a $9m+ Tkachuk for the next several years?

Definitely, but we’d be giving up a 1st rounder as well. Who knows how we’ll do after we trade Tkachuk? That leaves a huge hole on the right side for now. We also give a former first rounder and 2 prospects. Honestly i really want Eichel but thats a HUGE price to pay.

Eichel would be nasty to have, but we’re giving up the future too.
