With him set to become an RFA, it does give them some options.
- Keep him and try to convince him to sign a long-term deal, essentially taking Eichel's spot as the leader.
- Keep him if this season continues to go well for them and look at moving him in the off-season to a team who can get him signed as an RFA (or keep him and sign him to his QO for one more season).
- Treat him like a rental and trade him to a contender at the deadline.
If he goes there and has some success, they should be able to get at least one first round pick and something else at the deadline from a contender. This would get them pretty close to the 4 first round picks they've supposedly been asking for all along.

Well except for the fact the price might be too high depending on what is included beyond Tkachuk

No. Didn’t say that. I am ok with Tkachuk included in Eichel trade.
Just think that the Blues would have to give up more to get Tkachuk (in their portion or the 3 way deal).

Tarensenko plus a 1st for Tkachuk would be bad. One less piece from the Flames and one more from the Blues.
Also, if it is a three way trade than Buffalo would not need to be talking to Tkachuk on an extension.
Will see what the rumour mill puts out on Friday.
