Imagine arguing that a guy who's only association with NHL clubs has been as a member of the media is 100 times more connected than a guy who played 14 seasons in the NHL which included being teammates with multiple NHL executives including the GM of the primary club involved in this madness.

I agree. You missed the point (Matt was drafted 5th). It's a value conversation...and the easiest common currency to convert to in hockey is draft picks.
Matt is a top 3 draft pick in most drafts.
Eichel is a top 1-2 draft pick in most drafts with an injury risk.
The two are not separated by 2 additional 1sts and some mid rounders...

I'm not disputing that he's a breadcrumber, as you said. He has a weekly podcast to fill, and he talks to everyone around the league.

I am okay with Tkachuk as the center piece, because of his contract status, and because he hasn't seemed happy here since last year. And I think the top line would be fine without him for 3 months.
And I am okay with Valimaki being included, now that we have seen the growth from Kylington. In the summer, I would have been much less keen about his inclusion.
I read Weekes' rumour like this;
Tkachuk
Valimaki, or Zadorov
1st
One of Zary, Pelletier, or Coronato
One of Poirier, Stromgren, or whatever
If Valimaki, Sabres retain $1.8M, if Zadorov, no retention

I don't see how Vegas has the pieces to match this.
Not off the roster, and not off the prospect pool.
Especially not if there's salary retention involved.
