I also think about the impact having Eichel will have on attracting free agents. Hall signed one year just to play with him and bump his numbers up. Playing with Gaudreau and Eichel will be very attractive combined with success we seem to be having under Sutter.

I want Eichel as much as the next fan, But I cant stand to see us losing MT. I call BS on this rumor as I believe if he was on the table the deal would already be done. There is nothing Vegas could offer that could beat MT.

I think Johnny has always felt more 'ours' than Tkachuk.
We drafted him in the 4th round when he weighed <140 lbs.
We tracked his development for three years in college, saw what he was becoming. Johnny was the reason development camps became standing-room-only affairs.
We fretted about whether or not he'd loophole his way to UFA, he didn't.
We fretted about whether he'd sign a shorter-term bridge that walked him to UFA as soon as possible, he didn't - he's given this city the bulk of his prime.
He's been our best player, inarguably, since he arrived.
He has never been a distraction off-ice (not that Matthew has either).
It's no mystery why Johnny is the favourite son.

I agree...i suspect Buffalo leaked this because this is what they want.
Matt was essentially a 3rd overall pick. It doesn't cost 3 x 1sts to move up one spot when you are giving up the younger, healthier player.
