I don't believe Tkachuk is in our long-term plans, but he has too much value to be used in a trade like this.
That Buffalo reporters are saying the team should jump on this deal immediately kind of tells me this is nonsense.

Or it propels them forward for a long time. Elite franchise centreman for 4 more years, and also entices our elite playmaker to sign long term? Sign me up!

I would do this deal in a heart beat. Tkachuk is no Eichel. You don't get an elite center available in the market like that ever. and we get to keep Dube and Mangiapane.

Eichel might not be a top 5 player, but he is hands down a top 5 center in the league which is basically impossible to draft and develop. It's doubtful a neck surgery, which is fairly routine, is going to change that in the least.
Who else exactly would you expect Tkachuk to land this team that is better than and possibly more of a game changer than Eichel? He himself isn't a top 5 player or winger in the league despite being damn good. This franchise needs someone up the middle that can challenge the likes of McDavid, Mackinnon etc skill wise if it's going to take the next step.

And Johnny Gaudreau not re-signing here as a UFA, that would make more sense as to why the Flames are going after Jack Eichel so hard.
Not good when you can't re-sign your top players.

I'll say this (and happy to validate a source for a mod if he would want).
The Tkachuk rumours in the summer weren't completely untrue. I heard from what I would consider a very reputable source that:
- Tkachuk was unhappy with how the last two seasons went in Calgary
- Tkachuk didn't feel like he had the support of his teammates, and there was some animosity there among some members of the team (the widely rumored team meeting)
- Tkachuk didn't like his treatment from Sutter last year
- Tkachuk didn't necessarily ask for a trade, but did make it known he'd be open to a trade to a U.S. market this past off-season.
So depending on what actually occurred in a discussion between Tkachuk, his agent, and Treliving in the off-season it doesn't surprise me at all that Tkachuk could be involved here.

Depends what the other pieces are.
I'm comfortable moving Tkachuk + 2022 1st for Eichel.
If the former 1st round is one of Valimaki, Zary, or Pelletier that's a little less appealing...but if it's Nikita Zadorov that's great.
If the 2 prospects are more former 1st rounders that's bad...but if it's like Phillips and Ruzicka then that would be fine.

If not in a deal for a top 5-10 number center, what situation would you be willing to trade Tkatchuk.

Why is everybody talking as if Chucky is already a dead man walking who will never sign long term with the org? Are there actually solid signs that he wants out?

I don’t think those reporters are properly factoring in that one year qualifying offer of 9 mil and direct walk to UFA
Buffalo might be going through the same trade process with Tkachuk next year or soon

Dube and Mangiapane are well on their way. We would survive the season until Eichel gets his health.
As long as the former first isn't Monahan, I'm game.
Zadarov I'm ecstatic. Valimaki and I'm ...lukewarm.

Which is fine, since they're one of those garbage organizations that think picks/prospects >>>>>>>>> actual players.
Tkachuk will get them more of those.

Yeah, I have heard some kind of brutal rumours about Tkachuk too quite honestly. Seems like ego and attitude issue potentially at play but so hard to know without context / knowing details, only vague rumoury stuff.

He went from 7 to 19 after Saprykin was traded to Phoenix for Langkow.
And he would've been one of the centrepieces of our Thornton trade, had Darryl offered up Dion. Which he should've.

I actually strongly believe Tkachuk doesn't want to stay in Calgary long term, but I'd much rather trade him for a good futures package than a gamble on an injured player

Anyone else slowly souring on Tkachuk? On the top line, he is coasting off of Johnny and Lindholm. Hasn't shown anything much this year in terms of skill; still a poor skater, often distracting with his antics. His contract situation is bad. For the talk of Monahan having 0 EV points, Tkachuk has 2 this year, playing top line with top players.
The Kevin Weekes rumor is fantastic value and a way to get max value out of Tkachuk.

Tkachuk, Zadorov, 2024 1st, two non-top tier prospects (say Ruzicka and Poirier), and you think Buffalo says yes? That technically meets Weekes' description - I think there's too much range in that description to know what's actually being offered, if it were actually true.

If Chucky goes the other way, then it's really easy:
We have an elite #1 centre wearing the #19 jersey.
The rest is already written.
