Because they only get Tkachuk for one more year and have to pay $9M for the privilege. Then he’s a rental trade, which has value but is dependent on the market in the future.

Thing is, if the team thinks they're not going to be able to re-sign one of Tkachuk, Gaudreau or Mangiapane, it makes sense one would be in this package. I don't have any idea who the "former 1st rounder" Weekes is alluding to is, or the two prospects though. I really don't want to lose Wolf or Coronato personally.

That makes sense to me but I don’t think Tkachuk even at that QO of 9M carries so much negative value that would require adding 4 more first round pieces.

Former first round player that carries a cap hit needs to be Zadorov, then prospects.
Tkachuk is already a good top line player they'd be getting.

Yea more likely Zadorov on a 1 year contract and that's why the 5th piece. and Monahan has LNMC anyway and centre depth is good to have.

I don’t think he’s negative value. But I don’t think Buffalo has him as a long term add either so his value is more limited than people here think. If he’s flying the coop here, and in Buffalo, his value is the one year. Then you have to find a contender who needs him and can afford the partial year cap hit. Last year’s rental trades were all over the place value-wise.

Yup. It adds up.
Tkachuk makes sense. Our core would be HELLA expansive if there wasn't a major salary piece heading out.
He's an attractive piece. Helps their current season.
Meanwhile eichel plays the more important position, extends our window, and entices Johnny to re-sign long term.

What's your guy's thought of trying to get Patrik Laine instead of jack? I think in the rite environment he can turn it around.one of the best sniper's in the game,good size RHS.what would it cost to get him?
