Its a massive upgrade even with a 1080p TV...wait if you want but if you find one in the it is well worth it.
Frame rates trump resolution anyway and the controller itself is a game changer

In my opinion, if a person only has a 1080p TV and doesn't plan on upgrading anytime soon and is happy with a last gen console...whether it be a PS or XBOX, the choice right now is to save your $600. There is not a single must have "current gen" game out.
Depending on how long a person plans to wait and having a decent PC also factors in, as we have seen Sony recently releasing past exclusives to PC.
Also with my experience with the new controller, having it already been replaced due to faulty/broken haptic triggers with hardly any vigorous gaming sessions and what it offers. I don't find it all that "game changing".
As a PS5, XSX and PC owner, with the current state of "current gen" gaming, this is my personal preference and recommendation to anyone in that circumstance.
If you plan on upgrading to a new tv with all the bells and whistles then the upgrade is more than worth it.
