I hope Chabot only wanted to be back for 1 term. Imagine giving up your political career to support a piece of crap deplorable like Chu.

A total of $564,318 in transition allowances will be dispersed to 10 retiring or defeated council members, including the mayor, according to a Postmedia analysis of publicly available data. One-term councillor Jeromy Farkas, who lost his mayoralty bid, turned down the allowance and pension benefits.
The question is, did he turn down the allowance and pension benefits as part of his run for Mayor or did he do it afterwards?
It's sick that Joe will continue to get $18,000 in taxpayer dollars after stealing tax payer dollars for who knows how many years. His pension should be cancelled if he is hit with criminal charges

Chabot has been trying to get back on Council for years. He is a former three-term Councillor and a mayoral candidate. This guy is trending to try and be at City Hall until his last breath. He's also tried running for the UCP and failed.
Based on his past politics and track record on Council, he is your classic curmudgeony non-progressive "defender of the public purse" type of politician, who is happy to say populist things and then take all the advantages of being on Council with a nice salary and pension.
I honestly don't see what this guy brings to the table except obstructionism and contrarianism.

Chabot appeared as a representative to the community for one of my neighbour's development permit last year when they were trying to get a relaxation to the bylaws. It was quite clear that his role was to help push the development through city hall, even though the community was firmly against it.
It was basically an expansion on an existing McMansion that would have taken it from 2 stories to a 5-story eyesore but they pitched it as "multi generational", "age in place", "transit oriented" and used the nearest condo buildings as precedent while ignoring the neighbouring century homes on the same block. Chabot was there to provide the pitch tailored for city hall and a mind-boggling argument that the top 2 stories didn't count so really it was just a single story development.
Then I did some more googling (because the home-owners he was representing have a checkered legal history that is in the public record -- they have previously sued Nenshi, Farrel and the community association when development applications got heated). It was surprisingly easy to find records of various business dealings all supported by Chabot, Chu and Magliocca. These are also the owners of the restaurant that was the home of Magliocca's first expense scandal. So to see Chabot now supporting Chu comes as no surprise seeing as they seem to run in the same circles.
I know he has a good reputation in some city planning offices and many spoke positively of him when he ran for Mayor but personally I think it's upsetting he got back in. He's not there to represent his ward, he's there to represent certain business interests. I'm hopeful that his first vote on council just made that clear to everyone.

I am so confused by what Terry Wong is trying to say. Is he trying to say that he's the victim of racism, and that's similar to sexual assault, and he's learned to move on?
But if that's the case, who's the victim that he supported? Himself? But "Move on" doesn't mean learn to move on, it was referring to governance?? Wtaf is the point he's trying to make?

It still bothers me today as a matter of fact. But what I'll say is actions that were done over the course of years, and in my situation, it was years ago, I've learned to move on, so has this victim learned to move on."

Is he saying he, too, sexually assaulted a 16 year old, but then supported his victim? It's baffling.

See, I read that as him saying it in relation to the Sean Chu situation, in which case she has definitely not moved on...
But I agree. He took comments that were unclear....and made them even worse/more unclear.

If you read it for what he actually said and not trying to interpret what he means, that was my first reaction. He too was in a similar situation (to Chu?? so...he assaulted someone???) and knows a victim of sexual assault, but then supported his victim and he and his victim both decided to move on because it happened years ago and it was in the past, so we should move on from the Chu issue because it was also in the past.
And then he starts talking about Racism, and if that happened today he'd censure them, but if somebody was racist in the past, that's bad, but he'd move on.
But move on doesn't mean move on in the way you think it does, it means governance.
oooooooooooook Wong.

So are we all rioting at Fuzz's house?
I need to know because the cost of Torch-Oil is practically criminal these days.

Save the $$, leave the torch at home. They're on the outs nowadays unless you want to be associated with these guys

Presumably not because he was the one that assaulted them. Right?
Anyways, "I've supported people that were sexually assaulted in the past and I've moved on from it, and because of that we should move on from Sean Chu" is...not exactly the strongest argument.

No, no! I have proper torches, like you'd see in Indiana Jones! Not the ones that the white supremacists carry.
Tiki-torches. An ironic Cultural Appropriation from South Pacific Native Tribes.
