…and Satan couldn’t get this deal done today? On Halloween?
C’mon now.

No because it's my birthday tomorrow and Bradley said he'd save the trade for a gift.

Man, did I love picking him in pools. “I choose Satan”.
Plus then he’d always outscore his draft position because he was tremendously underrated.

I saw a tweet earlier in this thread that Eichel isn’t listed on LTIR right now… this is because Buffalo needs his salary to meet the cap floor, correct? The problem is that the flames would need him to be on LTIR in order to acquire him without sending back $8.9 million in salary.
So I’m wondering if this would work under the salary cap rules:
1. Flames trade Zadorov + Valimaki to the sabres for future considerations (e.g. a 6th round pick). That’s $5.3 million in combined salary cap hit. I think that’s enough to keep Buffalo above the cap floor even without eichel. Buffalo now can put eichel on LTIR.
2. Flames trade Pelletier + Zary/Coronato + 2022 first round pick for Eichel (who is on LTIR).
Does this work to make it so Calgary does not need to send back a total of $8.9 million in salary cap space? I know that something will have to happen to make room for eichel as some point but that could be delayed till either the trade deadline or the offseason if eichel is not ready till the playoffs. This allows Calgary to keep Monahan as long as they can. Injuries could come up later that make room for eichel during the season or he could come back just in time for the playoffs when the salary cap doesn’t matter.
I’m not sure if any of this is possible or if trading a player on LTIR works that way. I hear some people say the flames need to be under the cap including Eichel’s salary when they acquire him even if he is on LTIR. Is that true? I’ve never heard exactly how this works.

Haha it would be so funny if Zadorov ended up back in Buffalo while still an RFA.

I would be pretty apprehensive to trade Andersson. He’s been pretty big part of the early season success and is our best offensive defenseman. I really don’t think anyone is there to fill the role he has. Not to mention the chemistry he has with other players. I am not saying he is untouchable, but I don’t think offense from the backend is an area of strength we can deal from and not have it greatly affect the team.
I would rather trade Valimaki. I think his upside is drastically overrated.

Well, I don't think it was overrated, but you can't lose as much critical development in his first two seasons as he did and still be on the same trajectory.

I agree with you, that Andersson would not be easy to give up. He is one of the roster assets that makes some sense for Buffalo. I was just trying to look at it from the other team's perspective.
In a scenario where you trade Andersson you pretty much have to go and acquire another top 4 D, once Eichel is on LTIR. It will definitely be an all in move though.

Agreed. I don’t think he was initially overrated, but I doubt he realizes that potential now.
It seems appropriate that he would be part of a deal for Eichel as his potential and growth as a player is questionable now for the same reasons. He has lost a lot of development time over the past couple of years also.

Following this to no conclusion is agonizing. Its just turning into the last Eichel thread over again (or the one three Eichel threads ago).
Gonna retract my attention until an insider chimes in with something concrete and not this throwing hay in the wind we've been getting since July or earlier.
As for the Sabres, they are truly, utterly incompetent. This is like turning in your final project a semester after it was due.

Think we might see this thing turn into a grievance.

Guys the sabres have long past any key points of getting a return to their fancy. The next key point is the trade deadline. I don’t believe the grievance to the union will mean anything to them. I will be surprised if he is traded before 2021 . Don’t get me wrong I’m hoping he is traded to flames tomorrow, but I think the rumours going around from the talking heads is click bait.

Incorrect. He counts against the cap whether he is on LTIR or not. It makes no difference from the perspective of needing to reach the cap floor.

Weird. Being on LTIR seems to be an issue for teams trading for him, but I guess Buffalo could just put him on LTIR moments before submitting the trade then?

Trading for Eichel is gambling. Trading for any injured player is, especially an injury like this.
What if it turns out CGY doctors come to the same conclusion as BUF?
What if Eichel’s preferred surgery turns out OK, but not great, and he plays out his career at 75% ability? What if the best case, no matter the surgery, is 85% recovery?
Or, it’s all fine and dandy, he continues to be a top tier centre.
A 100% Eichel is worth a lot, but injured Eichel is a lottery ticket, literally, and BUF will be holding a couple of ours plus a few good players.
Can you re-sign Mangiapane with the new cap structure? Or Tkachuk?
Pure gambling. Say no.

Not trading for Eichel is also gambling.
Opportunity cost.
I'm with jayswin, everything he said here I basically agree with.
