Not sure why so many wanna break up the lines just to appease Monahan??
Flames have won 6 in a row and have 3 shutouts in that span. Why shouldn't Monahan remain on the 4th line?

Absolutely dominant, man these guys are fun to watch! And not to beat a dead horse but this is proof that quality coaching matters.

Looking at the ice times last night its really hard to say there's a traditional 4th line. Darryl has 4 effective lines rolling right now and I agree we don't break them up.
But if you're looking at playing time (5v5) the Ritchie/Dube/Mang line would technically be the 4th line.

Exactly.
Monahan has the 6th most minutes played per game, amongst all forwards, since the start of the season.
Last night he was 7th, ahead of Dube, Mangiapane etc.
He is not playing traditional 4th line minutes....nor is he a 4th line player.
How many 4th line players play PP1 minutes?
.

I've noticed this year we get alot of fast rushes (breakaways, odd man rush etc), and I was wondering if other teams are just messing up bc early season or are we creating those changes. Everyone thinks oh Sutter hockey is boring and defensive but these guys are using their speed, stretching the defense and really pushing the puck up the ice with intention.

And it's both ways.
The backpressure is allowing the defensemen to step up to the red line instead of the Calgary blueline, closing the gap and completely killing the other team's ability to counter or transition.
They don't look like a lot of fun to play against these days.

Daryl clearly said it in the presser. He’s spreading talent around the roster. Monahan isn’t a 4th liner (lol) he plays PP1 for Pete’s sake.
Darryl is concerned with winning. Not individual stats.

By the time the playoffs come around McD and Drai will be so worn out from playing 25+ minutes a game, plus the 8 of the last 10 minutes of every important game, it won't be a problem if he's even healthy. Seems like we are happy to roll 4 lines

But surely Markstrom can play more than 2 in a row without any back to backs and still be fresh. Especially when they are mostly at home and it's early in the season. I agree if it's late the season and the Flames are in the drivers seat they could give Markstrom more rest.

The Oilers are a good match up for every team in the playoffs. They were run out of their own building by the #23 seeded team, for God's sake.
No one should be afraid of the Oilers.

Yes, and he wants Dube at centre, and he wants Monahan at centre one of them gets to play with Mangiapane and one doesn’t. It’s that simple. Arguably Monahan has the next best offensive player after Mangiapane, but unfortunately that’s Lucic, and there’s a pretty wide gulf.

I don't even think the Lucic-Monahan has been that bad. It's just that Trevor Lewis is Just A Guy... not bad but not dynamic. I think a couple of our AHL guys - Pellettier and Phillips, instantly jumpstart that forward pairing with their high-end skill.

Fleury was on the 4th line and PP1 for a while in '89.

Give me the Oilers every day, the playoffs is a different beast.
The Oilers won't get their gifts on the powerplay. In fact the refs dealing with Connors bull#### diving and crying and staring at the refs is just going to turn the officials against the Oilers. Remember the Canucks and their antics, eventually you could basically punch a Sedin in the face in front of the refs, and the Refs would be "Like whatever".
The Oilers are one dimensional, they have a power play . . . . other then that they stink.
Connor's not a winner, he dogs it in the playoffs, he's satisfied he's got his individual awards he's good. Draisaitl was poop in the playoffs last year and quit half way through that series.
Their blueline is garbage, its had a nice stop but garbage doesn't stop stinking, eventually the fabreeze camouflage that Holland sprayed on that pile of crap that's he's built will wear off.
Does anyone actually believe that a tandem of Smith at 86 and no catch Koskinen is that scary of a tandem to face in the playoffs? I want that Markstrom vs those two matchup.
The Oilers deserved a worse fate in game one, the Flames are finding their game. This streak of the Oilers against a easy schedule is their height. There's no surprises.
I'm still convinced that the Oilers will slide out of the playoffs when the chips are down. Like the scorpion riding the Turtle . . . Its in their nature.

Great game - surprisingly sparse crowd though given a Saturday night game with the team on a hot streak. Hopefully attendance improves.

Who said anything about this? Maybe the thinking is if his game has improved and keeps improving maybe, just maybe he can help with Mang and Dube instead of Brett Ritchie.
Do you have to take the negative on everything said?

2 unrelated points.
1, it really tells you something when Elias Lindholm is +10 and Connor McDavid, he of 16 points is +1.
2, I don't think it's any coincidence that Zadorov only drew back in now that the team is back home where they can control the matchups. He couldn't even draw back in when Hanafin missed a game, they asked Andersson to play out of position before they played Zadorov.

Back in 2017-18 our fourth line before injuries was Versteeg - Stajan - Brouwer
Our PP1 before injuries was
Brouwer
Versteeg - Monahan - Gaudreau
Brodie
There was also Sam Gagner for Tortorella, had a 50pt season a few years ago from the 4th line.

The whistles get put away and the Oilers only strength, their PP, takes a massive hit. The games become a 5on5 battle, and the Oilers such at 5on5 hockey. If they couldn't rely on their PP and being able to stack the ice with their only five good players, they would be a bubble team at best.
