The Lowercase Movement
Yes apparently this is a thing, on university campuses and elsewhere.
University VP has extra security on campus after showing solidarity with Indigenous struggle:
"dr. linda manyguns joins the lowercase movement to reject the symbols of hierarchy wherever they are found and will not use capital letters except to acknowledge the Indigenous struggle for recognition."

^Funny you mentioned the PETA “Arm Barn” thing because it’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the subject matter. Doing nothing and acting as though it’s helping. It’s just a different version of ‘thoughts and prayers’.
I think this is all rather silly, but it doesn’t affect me so what the hell do I care if her and this movement does or doesn’t capitalize things? I’m not a teacher grading English papers over here, I really couldn’t care about this if I tried.

Yeah, feels like OP buried the lede here. The article isn’t about a tweet from August, it’s about that tweet leading to abuse and death threats in the time since, which is being investigated by the police.
