The long shots who make it to the show are some of the best stories.

I thought the Flames got a 3rd for the Neal trade; how is Beck connected to it?

They traded the Oilers' pick to LA for a slightly lower 3rd and a 6th. They took Whynot with the 3rd and Beck with the 6th.

Thanks! I'd forgotten that and am that much happier at Beck's success because of it.

And a great assist too, if he wasn't injured for half the year and if his team wasn't trash, he would be way more hyped up. He is 1.22 ppg and the second best player on his team is 0.76 ppg

Scott Wheeler from The Athletic with a good piece on Jack Beck today.
Flames prospect Jack Beck says he feels ‘normal’ after long kidney contusion recovery

Quote:
“He’s so smart and he reads the game so well. The smarts are there, the skill is there, and if he gets stronger the sky’s the limit,” Boyd said. “With him, it’s just a matter of continuing to get stronger. That’s going to be a key for him at the pro level is the ability not to put on weight but to gain strength. The injuries, it’s been tough for Jack to make those strides forward. He needs a big summer, he knows that. But he’s willing to put in the work.”

We’re really reaping the benefit of Burton and our scouting staff. We’ve had some great finds in the later rounds (Eat Bread) and 2 of our top 4 D men nabbed in the same round, with others having time to develop if they’ve reached a dip (Valimaki) and need a bit
more time. That’s what good organizations do, and Beck looks like he’s got some finish and drive!

The 2021 draft is really all over the place, as prospect development was significantly impacted by the pandemic. None moreso than the Ontario Hockey League.

As much as numbers and projections count, sometimes it comes down to a scout's hunch. Let's hope they hit bullseye here.

Another great human with high hockey IQ ... the Flames just keep going back to that well.

Love that Calgary has Beck and Whynot from the James Neal gift 3rd. Really hope one of them makes it.

Beck is tied for 27th in the OHL for points per game, at 1.18. He is the only player on his team that is even NEAR a ppg, and he’s way over. He’s also one of the few 67’s with a positive plus/minus, with +2. I think it’s safe to say that his stat line would look even more dazzling on a better team-the 67’s are 14th out of 20 teams in the standings, but DEAD LAST in goals scored, at 193 in 66 games.

Pretty funny that Beck is outscoring Tyler Boucher by a mile.

Boucher was an awful pick. They were trying to draft their Tom Wilson but that's way too early in the first to be that narrow.
If I were them I would have drafted Wallstedt to get their franchise #1.

Think he has the best shot in the Flames system. If he can stay healthy and round out his game, he has a high ceiling. Other than his wicked shot, everything else is still pretty raw, though.
