Crosby had some bad injuries and came back, Kucherov of course came back, I can’t think of many big stars that didn’t come back from injury so early in their careers. It makes me think that yup, Eichel will be back, no problem, but then I think neck issues are voodoo. I’m definitely thinking about it too much.

Allowance has to be made for medical advances, but Neely, Bure, Bossy, Simmer.

Most forwards have their most productive years around age 23 or 24. So yes, probably.
Even 80% Eichel is our best 1C since Nieuwendyk
Just do it ffs

I actually think the going rate for 100 points is closer to $12 m. PPG is just fine for $10 m.

But that’s not really how it works is it?
“Going rate” implies signing a FA. To judge Eichel we’d have to take into account his salary at the time of signing. Especially with the rate of contract escalation in the nhl.
It’s not like players get paid what they’re worth on an annual basis.

I think the bigger loss will be lost the experience to round him out into a complete player.
I think there is a good probability that he gets back to being a ppg foreword. I think is overall effectiveness will never be as high as it could have been because he lacks NHL experience. Players offended peaks at 24-25 but their play I would say peaks around 26/27/28. In those years Eichel will have less experience and by the time he gets that experience is Offensive burst will have dropped off. So we have lost peak Eichel for sure.
I think whoever gets him ends up disappointed if they trade roster players for him. If it’s for futures for a team in a win now window then I think even a diminished Eichel will add to a team.

I don't think it matters if he scores 100 points or 70 points. As long as he is an elite #1 center.
Bergeron doesn't score 100 points. I don't want Buffalo Eichel where he is average defensively. I rather have an elite center who can play great defence while still putting up points. Buffalo Eichel left a lot on the table when it comes to playing defence.

Speaking from experience, back injuries are a great way to go from feeling like a spry thirty-something to a cranky 70 year old. Admittedly mine is muscle-related and not spinal, but I can't imagine spinal is the better option of the two.

When watching the game against the Oilers this year I saw Monahan get cross checked in the neck from behind by Kassian a few times behind the net and wondered what would happen if that was Eichel. My wife has had spine surgery and its a gnarly thing. Gave me a bit of pause on the trade...

My spinal injury can confirm.
