The AHL minor league assistant coach, Jarrod Skalde, making the accusation on the head coach and Bill Guerin is a former Flames player .

I'm not sure if this is the best discussion to ask this but does it seem like hockey is the worst of the sports for this type of abuse? I know that every league has a wide range of issues whether it be drugs, domestic abuse, racism, sexism, etc but I get the sense that hockey has a lot more sexual abuse from the minors to pro leagues.

I don’t have the stats and/or facts.
My initial reaction would be that your “sense” or presumption would be incorrect.
Although, the few that have gone public have been horrific.

Am I missing something here? Why should Guerin be finished exactly?

Jarrod and Erin Skalde sued the Penguins nearly a year ago in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, alleging former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach Clark Donatelli molested Erin Skalde during an outing on a road trip in 2018. The team is the American Hockey League affiliate of the Penguins and is run by the NHL club.
They also allege that current Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin, who was GM for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and assistant GM for the Penguins at the time, asked Jarrod Skalde to keep the reason for Donatelli’s termination quiet and that the team punished Skalde for reporting the assault and later terminated his position under the guise of pandemic-related staff cuts.

Friedman benefits when he stays buddy-buddy with teams. It takes some serious naïveté to believe him that he didn’t report on this because of workload instead of a fear of ticking off the old boys club by asking tough questions and reporting on them.

Bill Guerin was made Wild GM in August 2019, and Skalde was fired May 2020.
As for keeping quiet the reason for Donatelli's termination, that's usually SOP from HR, is it not? I'm geniunely asking, because this does look like a different situation than the Blackhawks one in a lot of ways.

This is true but it's plain as day that Sportsnet is on a leash when it comes to it's reporting on the league. Benefits of a monopoly broadcaster... Easier to control the narrative. It's downright cringey when they need to criticize a ref the 3 or so times a year that they blow a call. It's like they whisper it and hope no one's listening. Very phony #### that we have been gobbling up for years now.

Not hockey but someone speaking out likely after being encouraged by what they've seen Beach do.
This story just breaking out in Vancouver regarding the Whitecaps women's team from years back.
Feels like a day of reckoning may be coming for abusive coaches who have been able to hide too long.

Donatelli was reported by Jarrod to have sexually molested Skalde’s wife.
Pretty certain SOP from HR is to investigate the claim and sure as hell not have Guerin tell them to ignore it, whether Donatelli was released ...or not.
Are you serious?

I cant bring myself to watch the Beach video. I dont think I just need that kind of strong emotion that people are having to it in my life. I have been however, been thinking about masculinity and what it means to influence peoples behaviour based on coaches, bosses etc. I feel like toxic masculinity is getting thrown around but I am not sure where it all ends when you have generations of people raised and taught in a certain culture.

Are you serious? Please let's start from a point of not immediately assuming the least charitable interpretation of what the other person is saying. We're both reading the same article here.
"Don't tell other employees why X got fired" is very different from "don't go to the police". If Guerin meant the latter, then you bet your ass that's a problem. But typically, employers vet whatever communications need to happen about such events through their HR and legal teams prior to releasing them.

They, basically, terminated Skalde for reporting the alleged assault.

And if that's the case, that's abhorrent, you'll get no argument from me. The Penguins should rightfully get hammed over that.
But how is Guerin in any way culpable and deserving of losing his job over this as some people have suggested?

So he had nothing to do with Skalde's firing.
Where people have suggested Guerin should see some sort of punishment is where I am asking why, because right now the details do not seem to suggest that's a reasonable course of action:
- He acted on what he was told, and the Penguins 'invited Donatelli to leave'.
- Him telling Skalde not to talk about it, again, I'm making an assumption that he meant it how most managers would mean it: don't tell other employees. Because HR and Legal teams will generally vet such sensitive communications.
We don't have the benefit of a full unredacted report investigating what went on, but from what details are available, I don't see where Guerin is at fault here.

“Guerin apparently said this,” Russo explained, “but he said that after he dealt with it. The way it’s characterized in TSN, it made it sound like Skalde came to him and Guerin said ‘Keep this quiet,’ when the reality is he told the Penguins right away, he was horrified by it and would deal with it.”
He concluded his thoughts on Guerin’s involvement with the case, saying, “I read the lawsuit, Guerin is a minor part of it — 40 items in — and I think it really was mischaracterized for a long time yesterday. Whatever Guerin said to Skalde, maybe it wasn’t the right words at the time, but I can tell you that according to the lawsuit it is very clear that Guerin dealt with this. Within one week of him finding out seven months after the incident, the coach was fired.”

"The coach" being WBS head coach Donatelli.
