Generally western fans are more in touch with Eastern teams than the other way around cause of the game times.
Easterners that claim they routinely stay up for 9 or 10 pm est games are probably lying. Maybe they catch starts, but unlikely many of them are staying up past midnight to be able to give takes on full games played out here. Unless it involves whichever team they follow.

Dom has created a statistical model that is very good at predicting game outcomes; it beats Vegas odds regularly.
His model is based on past performance (last 3 years weighted more to the recent).
His reputation is based solely on that. He is not a great hockey evaluator, and yes, he is a poster child for Eastern bias. The fact that he admitted that he didn't want to watch the Flames because of how they played last year says it all. If he wanted to be an evaluator he would want to watch all teams just to get the views. If he picks and chooses his games based on his preferences he is just a (Leafs) fan with a good proprietary statistical model.

I think a lot of these advanced stats guys take a perverse pride in not actually watching NHL games. As though it would taint the purity of their analytics. Luszczyszyn routinely uses the term “hockey guy” as a sneer.
