A phone, some pens, Calgary Sun, stale donuts, and a Jack Eichel 8x10.

I wonder if Calgary did offer Hanifin already and that’s why Vegas has just now been making D moves to try and raise the ante with Theodore.

We won’t know until we know but many on this site myself included were ready to go Tkachuk, Zary, 1st for Eichel (especially if we could have got him early in the offseason so he would be playing or close to it now).
I don’t think there will be a price where I will say “I am glad the Flames didn’t pay that”. Last year when Dubois was traded for Laine and Roslivic I was quick to say that was too rich for the Flames to pay. Our equivalent would have been Tkachuk and I would not have made that trade. I don’t think it is possible for me to feel that way with Eichel.
I am pretty pumped by the start. This team is playing very well so it looks like they have a good shot to make the playoffs but still 75 games to go. All signs point to a team that has bought in to playing the way their HOF coach wants and their franchise goalie is looking every bit the $6M man right now.
To me where this team is at and where they want to be they really needed to make this trade happen. Our blueline would be the biggest weakness but a team with Eichel-Lindholm-Backlund down the middle and Markstrom in net is a cup contender especially with wingers like Gaudreau and Mangiapane on the team.
There won’t be a better player than Eichel available for trade again in this short 2-3 window they brought Sutter back to try and win. Treliving can’t close a deal anymore. Changes his roster through Free Agency and bungled the highest pick in franchise history.
I am done with Treliving if these Vegas rumors are true

there is certainly a major risk
I would trade picks and prospects but not Hanifin plus those things...If Vegas is willing to go there they will probably get a deal done. Time will tell though if it was a good idea.
This place was pretty adamant the Flames missed out on Karlsson, turns out they dodged a bullet (I get its not exactly the same)

I think he did progress from good to elite. 78pts in 68 games is prorated to a 94pt season. He did that after his 82pt season.
That's elite #1C production.

No matter who gets Eichel there will definitely be a wait and see until he returns. This is not healthy ready to go Eichel.
There are risks I would take but we can't pretend this is a healthy player either. He may never be the same.

Man do I ever hate prorated point totals. Having 78 points in 68 games is great but having 94 points means you need to actually score 94 points. Injuries are part of the equation.

Missing 14 games is not a plus in my books...his career high is 82 until it isnt

I'm so over this team not having elite centre depth and just playing in the shallow end.
In the playoffs, out in the first round. Out of the playoffs. In the playoffs, out in the first round. Out of the playoffs.
...yet they never change their approach. Just keep on keepin' on. Mediocrity 4 Life.

Why do I feel if we weren't playing well, Brad would be pursuing this harder than he is.
Thinking it's different this time year after year as an excuse to stand pat has been his undoing as a GM.

Well, crazier things have happened... maybe Buffalo doesn't get quite what they want out of Vegas after intense discussion and go back to Calgary's best offer.

For sure we could be looking at this in 1-3 years and thinking we absolutely dodged a bullet there.
For me with how all in this team is by hiring Sutter, potentially walking Johnny to UFA, Tkachuk being able to walk to UFA in a year, having Markstrom in his prime they are win now. Getting a 25 year old elite player makes sense to me even with the risks. Now is the time to be fully all in. Eichel if healthy makes this team a cup contender and I think it is worth taking the risk.
