It's one of those irregular verb constructions:

I am an independent thinker.
You are eccentric.
He is completely gaga.

I think that fans put too much emphasis on line numbering, and that who you are playing with is some sort of reflection of your value.

Going into the season, I think most people would have ranked Coleman somewhere between 5th and 7th among forwards. My list would have been:

Gaudreau
Lindholm
Tkachuk
Monahan
Mangiapane
Backlund
Coleman (with Backlund and Coleman pretty interchangeable)
Dube
Pitlick

as the top 9. So far, 7 games into the season, based on how they are playing RIGHT NOW, I would rank them:

Gaudreau
Lindholm
Mangiapane
Coleman
Tkachuk
Backlund
Dube
Monahan
Pitlick

What line they play on is pretty irrelevant to me, as long as the team is having success.

Also, even if we wanted to rank the lines from 1 to 4, I am not sure that Coleman - Backlund - Pitlick would be 3rd. If you wanted to number them, I would say we have a 1, 2A, 2B, and 4.

But again, line numbers are hugely over-rated.

It's still early in the season, but this is the first time since the 1st half of the 2018-19 season that games have been really fun to watch. Obviously because they are not just winning, but winning convincingly.

If this is sustained throughout the majority of the season, this team is a legit threat.

Love Sutter hockey.
Parity is so strong in the league that the difference between winning and losing is really marginal.

I think/thought the Flames under-achieved last year, were out of shape, played a poor system, and had a few guys have really off years.

And with all that, they were basically near the bottom end of the middle-of-the-pack teams.

So if Sutter could get them playing better, and playing faster, there was room for them to move up. Because the difference between teams in the 18-20 range is not all that great from the teams in the 10-12 range.

The question now is: can they establish themselves as a top 10 team? That is the difficult part.

Love Sutter hockey.
Fully agree, but I think it is crucial to recognize how important the coach is. And also that X's and O's matter and motivational tactics matter. I love that Sutter knows when to give a guy a pat on the back and when to call him out. He seems to understand the right tools to implement for each player. So glad after years of missing the boat on elite coaches we are witnessing one of the best coaches of his era do his thing. And one of the coolest things is just listening to the man speak before/after games, I find it fascinating how he approaches the game. I'm not expecting a flawless season or anything but this is way funner that the last couple seasons (so far).

Love how Darryl never gets too high after wins or too low after losses. He's been through this so many times now and knows that it's a long season and a tough league, and that championships aren't won in October. His ability to keep his team focused and to just take it one game at a time is so impressive. I'm so happy we have this guy as our coach again.

He is such an interesting fellow. He seems very low key, but he actually commands the room. He dictates the direction and flow of pressers and will protect or motivate his players as needed based on his answers that sometimes have nothing to do with the question.

He's a gem and I just regret that we didn't get him when Monahan was about 21.

Wow. 5 in a row is impressive no matter how you slice it.

Markstrom was a star last night. He has been the best player arguably this last road trip.
I’m seeing he’s really out last season behind him.

The rest of the groups led by Coleman, lucic, gudbranson and kyllington have really meant a lot to this teams confidence right now. It’s great hockey to enjoy.

Man I’m so happy sutter is steering this ship. He has a lot of work to do yet but how can anyone not like what they have seen so far? I think he really has a strong ability to get the best out of defencemen. He must love Tanev. Heck what an under appreciated guy.

I am pleased with our defence and team defence. The back checking and pursuit of this team is really catching teams off guard. I haven’t seen a team like this since Darryl took over last time.

Playing monny down the line up is smart as others have said in him having more time to heal while stay in the game by reducing his minutes.

Johnny with a vintage snipe and marky made miracles. His mask is awesome too speaking of Tanev.

I hope this team can contain these other teams’ big guns when we meet then. I think we have a chance with this type of team confidence.

That was a road trip full of crow for me but keep serving it up.
