If we could all replace our rage with more empathy, the world would be a much better place.

Kyle Beach in his darkest time chose to ask for empathy, and offer his empathy to other victims. Let's follow that lead.

Gross ..Just realized cp does highly moderate and make comment disappear out of thin air.

Not a lick of my previous comment in post history or any where. Ever thought I'd see the day....

Also noticed this page shrunk by a page and a half....

Screen shotted this page to see if this even stays.

Cp doesn't moderate and take out posts.... I beg too differ

Looking at you Kootenay Flames fan.....

What, exactly, do you think their job is as a moderator if not to....moderate?

Moreso, what is "gross" about it?

This is a pretty serious topic with real victims. Lets not make this into a moderation debate.

What? Go into youth hockey?

He covered up the sexual assault of a young man in pursuit of winning a Stanley Cup. Not only that he then wrote a letter of recommendation for the abuser which enabled him to go on and assault a 16 year old kid. That’s not being insensitive.

Joel Quennville doesn’t belong in the NHL and he certainly doesn’t belong anywhere near youth hockey. I can’t think of anyone who should be further from youth hockey. That trust is gone forever.

We need leaders to develop good young men, but Quennville has proven he deserves to be the last guy tasked with that responsibility.

Thought Warrener's comments were interesting on the Fan this morning.

He talked to Flames alumni about it, and they were shocked as a group. Quick to say you never know how you will react in the moment, but the group felt they'd just grab the video coach and walk him out.

Who protects a video coach? This isn't the #1 center (who shouldn't be protected either)

This is a brutal take. “He’s not a bad guy he just does bad things” is akin to saying “I say racist things but I’m not actually racist”.

You are what you do.

Q is an absolute piece of ####. He knew what happened and did nothing.

Yeah I heard that as well and he was absolutely right in what he surmised.

Who, among the leadership group of players, wouldn't say to JQ or Bowman after hearing what happened say "we dont want this video guy anywhere near us", and have him removed from anything to do with the players?

He also started down the path of they would have likely taken the guy out behind the rink and ummm...give him some physical discipline. He let that go quickly....and rightfully.

But his best take was....why didnt some one, ANY one, with the team just call the police and let things take their course from there? That's the single oddest thing to me and the one aspect none of them can have any deniabiity about.

Also fully expect Cheveldayoff to be out of a job by this afternoon.

Not only did he do nothing, he put the value of winning a stanley cup over the wellbeing of someone who had been sexually assaulted

It just seems so crazy to me. Almost makes me think the players didn't know. Or didn't know the full extent.

Again, this misses the point completely. They weren't trying to protect the coach, they were trying to protect the team brand and avoiding a distraction from their cup run. That is what they prioritized over helping Beach and removing Aldrich. If they could have put Aldrich in a bag and sunk him to the bottom of Lake Michigan never to be spoken of again, I'm sure they would have, but that would cause people to ask questions, and that would result in a story. They were trying to avoid the story.

The same motivation applies to everything now, both at the level of the Hawks organization and the NHL head office. Now that this information is public, they can't avoid damage to the brand, so they're going to try to minimize it by taking the steps necessary to appease the public demand. That's why Quenneville wasn't fired immediately, that's why Cheveldayoff is still in place - they're gauging public reaction.

I don't really like the "he was just a video coach" line of thinking personally.

I don't really get why as fans of a sport we feel qualified to opine on whether the coaches or athletes are good or bad people. Before these events came to light, how were you able to come to a conclusion about the kind of person Quenneville is?

For the record that was a Warrener comment, and not mine.

Surely that could have been handled without a story though, no? I think the point people were trying to make is there aren’t a ton of outside eyes on the support coaching staff. He could have left for “personal reasons” and then handle the resignation in the off season. Keeping him around doesn’t make sense to me at all.
