Is Krebs better than the guys the Flames are rumoured to be including like Zary, Pelletier?

But let's not forget that this is also the guy who was too stubborn to trade Valimaki and a first for an elite winger the year we finished tops in the West. Do we get a deeper playoff run with Mark Stone as the top line RW? Can't see how we at least aren't more competitive.

Literally months of the Flames being in on discussions, but not seeing anything tangible, only to lose Eichel to the same division rival is unacceptable. Truly unacceptable.

I'm done with him as GM. Brad Treliving needs to go.
This keeps being said. Stone was a rental to the Flames. The price asked for a rental was too much. There are a lot of legitimate criticisms of Treliving, but the Stone deal is not one of them.

Outbid them. Peyton Krebs is a 17th overall pick. He’s as special as Zary.

Add something else - you can’t allow a division rival to steal a 0.95 PPG centre because you’re not comfortable giving up an extra prospect.

Well.....####.

I didnt necessarily want Eichel...but I did necessarily not want him in the division.

It is absolutely relevant.

We finished first place in the West. You pull the trigger on making your team as good as possible to compete in the playoffs, or you aren't doing your job as GM.

Treliving needs to go.

Fans emailing the GM demanding they make a trade is exhibit A in “why we can’t have nice things”.

The only words out of Tre’s mouth on that phone call should have been “enjoy the restraining order”.

If VGK lands Eichel without trading Krebs, I'm pretty much done with this team until they get new management

Can't wait to hear how we were really super close and Brad is the hardest trying of all the GMs in the league and we were in it until the very end. Blah, blah, blah

Sounds like Buffalo was super enamored with Krebs, so if Vegas caved on that front then the Sabres may be set on dealing with Vegas.

This is a pivotal moment for Treliving though. If you don't make this happen, what does that do to Johnny extending and the future of the current core? I think it's crucial that he work every angle possible to sway BUF our way again.

We're one season from this core falling apart if negotiations go south, whereas Eichel provides us an extended window of opportunity to compete and may provide incentive for those other guys to extend.

Don't eff this up Tre.

I’ll be extremely annoyed if Vegas gets him but it’s not a done deal. There have been plenty of instances of a favourite backing off at the last minute or a team making a last minute push.

They could be the favourite today. Who knows about tomorrow?

I understand Vegas can do the "Lightning" and make it work this year via LTIR and have a stacked team in the playoffs, but someone help me out with the math after that? Also, if they don't have Stone, Pacioretty, Tuch, whoever they trade to Vegas, and Eichel for most of the regular season, making the playoffs to reap the rewards of the "Lightning" seems unlikely.

Pretty risky for Vegas

I honestly wish some days that we were as "impulsive" and active as Vegas is to make themselves competitive.

They go out and make things happen...

We sit around, contemplate, then return to the safety of mediocrity while teams like Vegas swoop in.

I really don't see how Vegas makes this work money-wise. Even if they think Stone and Pacioretty are going to be out long-term and they'll just write this season off and come back strong next year with those players and Eichel fully-healed, they don't have any significant contracts coming off the books next year to make room.

Jeebus, this again. One more time: had Treliving sent Valimaki to Ottawa and won the deal (maybe), Mark Stone would still not be a Flame today.

And it’s “cojones”.
