What's wrong with calling him Eat Bread? You do know that his name, "Mangiapane" means EXACTLY that! This is coming from his mom.

It’s literally his name?
Far as I’m concerned it should be be Sean, 1 st, 2nd, zary/pelt/Cor and that’s it. This could easily set the franchise back years if you start giving up to top sixes and multiple firsts for a guy going into surgery and it goes south. Will make the Gilmour trade look like a gooder.
Don’t get me wrong as interested as anyone but not at the cost of losing a bunch of rosters on top of this. You can’t go yeast mode without the bread and we already gave up a stallion in Bennett, not interested in losing another on top of multiple firsts.
Do people really think the difference between Eichel and Sean is four more firsts??

During the summer, someone posted a photo of a signed jersey they bought where Mangiapane had added "Bread" to the signature, so I don't think he minds the nicknames.

Sure, right now he’s critical because of the lack of quality left shot dmen in the lineup. But in terms of what he actually brings to the line up, he’s not good value in my opinion.
Not a particularly strong defender, not a physical force, not real leadership qualities, not an elite PP quarterback, not a real threat to score. He’s sort of a bunch of things, but ultimately kind of ordinary and has nothing that really sets him apart. You can find guys like him on the open market.

Or maybe you're the idiot who didn't realize his last name translates to literally Eat Bread.

Assuming Monahan is salary out they would still likely need to find a way to part with Lucic and Backlund and maybe even Coleman to have a chance.
Johnny $9M, Tkachuk at 9.5M, Mangiapane at $6M, Eichel at $10M
|
Subtract two of Monahan, Backlund and Lucic and yes the team can retain those players and build a full roster with little issue

Boils down to perception of Value.
If NHL teams are dragging Monahans value as badly as so many posters here, you have to up the value in the other parts of the package. Mangiapanes value is at its highest right now.
Low dollar contract, due for a raise.
To me it makes the most sense if you want to plug Eichel in with Chucky or Johnny. Otherwise you'll have to make some larger sacrifice later.

He is apparently involved in a bromance with Eichel, so there is that factor to weigh...

If the Flames are looking to move a d-man who isn’t playing up to his contract, Andersson fits the bill more than Hanafin.

I think they have both been great to start the year. Really tough to move one of Hanifin, Andersson or Tanev right now

Flippin' feels inevitable at this point.
Time to start coming to terms with it I suppose. Still seems too risky to pony up a big trade package for Eichel.

If Eichel was an upcoming UFA, then it might make a sliver of a difference. But he’s not and will have plenty of time to make friends with other guys on the team.

Possibly. Although Andersson is by default, the more important offensive defenseman due in part to his slot on the #1 PP unit.
Either way, I’m not advocating trading Hanifin right now. To me, it’s more so about, if this team is in a cap bind next offseason and they absolutely had to make a move, then it’s Hanifin instead of Tkachuk.
I think a lot of people are misconstruing the original point/reply I was making. I'm not trading Hanifin just to trade Hanifin. I’m choosing to keep Matthew Tkachuk over a Hanifin or a Coleman and I think 90% of posters here would say much the same.

So the question someone asked here before and there wasn’t an answer, if Andersson goes on the Eichel deal and move Hanifin in lieu of Tkachuk…… who plays defence here?
Our defence right now is very weak and taking those two guys away makes it the worst in the league
