I'd say Dube and a protected first but yeah, if this is true that's exciting stuff. Also the "Tkachuk mending fences with management is a huge win too.

Too many pieces? I would hate to give up Dube, but Eichel is an bonafide, elite #1 center. Just watching his clips, you can see no one else on this team can do the things he can do. Johnny Gaudreau to an extent, but no way his shot even compares to Jack.

Take Dube and the 2nd out
No way it is 6 pieces - 4 is alot

GTFO Brad. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

I'm actually sad to hear Mangiapane's name connected to Eichel. Not necessarily surprised because it's Jack effin Eichel. But sad that one my favs could be traded away. Almost bought his jersey dating back to the end of the 18-19 season, that's how much I believed in this kid.
If Eat Bread is included in the trade, the draft pick better be lottery protected and I'd turn the second into a third.

This trade will likely hurt us until Eichel comes back into the fold. The key will be to stay focused on the end result. And if the team performs well despite the subtractions under Sutter's steady hand then we'll have a lot to be excited about down the stretch.

Pelletier has 5 pts in 4 games in the AHL. Perhaps he's another Mangi waiting in the wings?

If Monahan's career hadn't taken such a nose dive and if Valimaki's trajectory had progressed more, I would be inclined to agree. But it's Jack Eichel and you gotta give up something of significance. Dube might be the most valuable asset out of the lot in terms of potential, age, contract and years of team control.

Have to say this does line up with the line up moves as well.
Monahan centering bullies on the fourth line doesn't make a lick of sense otherwise.
Dots starting to connect.

We KNOW what we have with Mangiapane.
We THINK we know what we have with Dube
We HOPE we know what we have with Pelletier.
If one of these 3 are to be included, Pelletier is the preference, then Dube. Mangiapane is a 'no'

Agreed, also showcasing Valimaki and Kyllington over Zadorov (though this is actually better for the team).
Then trying out Dube at centre to cover gap between Monahan leaving and a healthy Eichel.
Too much smoke not to make sense.

Can the Flames Re-sign Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane if they add Eichel?
Assuming Monahan is salary out they would still likely need to find a way to part with Lucic and Backlund and maybe even Coleman to have a chance.
Johnny $9M, Tkachuk at 9.5M, Mangiapane at $6M, Eichel at $10M

Might be worth looking for Buffalo scouts/staff in NY tonight.
We used to get breakdowns of which team scouts were in attendance regularly. Don't know what happened to that. Could've been a tip off earlier.

If the Flames trade for Eichel, I hope 5 minutes later they sign Gaudreau to an 8 year extension, then 5 minutes after that they sign Tkachuk to an 8 year extension.
Gaudreau - Eichel -
Tkachuk - Lindholm -
That's a strong 4 core forwards to build around for the next 5 years.

100% agree, just throwing it out there.
I say we just keep adding prospects. How could they say no to 2022 1st, 2022 2nd, Monahan, Valimaki, Zary, and Pelletier?

I was just doing this salary cap gymnastics in my head. I think it would mean one of Tkachuk or Gaudreau would have to be sent packing. You would HAVE to get assets back for whichever you trade.

Eichel will also require a re-tool on the fly of sorts because of the cap structure. Too many guys need pay raises.
Mangi, Tkachuk, Gaudreau won't all be able to stay. Unless Buffalo takes someone like Backlund along with Monahan.
What it does allow for is a big run this spring with all hands on deck, which falls in line with the whole "Sutter is here to win".
There will be pains short term, but building around Eichel going forward makes a lot more sense than building around 29 year old Gaudreau (after he would be inked) or winger Tkachuk. I do hope we retain one of them long term to be that complementary core piece though.
Edit: PREFERABLY though, I'd like to see us do some cap gymnastics and re-sign the gang & go guns-ho on this thing for the next several years.

I just did it real quick, using your suggested contracts.
I also assumed Monahan, Dube and Valimaki are gone. And Lucic moved.
$72M for 13 guys, would have to fill the roster with 10 players of under $1M
But... you'd have:
Gaudreau - Eichel - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Lindholm - Coleman
Backlund
Hanifin - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Markstrom
Vladar
That's the core of a contender

The leafs have 3 guys over $10M. I feel like if they think they can get Tkachuk and Johnny signed then it makes sense to keep Dube and send Mangiapane.
I agree there is no way to keep all 3 while adding Eichel. I feel like it is most likely that they move Dube today and then Tkachuk would be moved in the summer to St.Louis/Ottawa for the most futures possible which softens the blow of the futures out for Eichel.
