Honestly, is there really any smoke? They are one of several teams that gets mentioned a bunch. Anaheim, Vegas, just as much "smoke" no?
This is why people get disappointed. Reading too much into so little.

Karlsson was traded before the start of the 18-19 season. September

Yeah, I don't think there is anything imminent. It seems to me that getting a player like Eichel (health concerns aside) just makes so much sense for the Flames, so all the talking heads are going out on that limb. What doesn't make sense is the asking price, because you can't just brush the injury concerns aside. As mentioned, I also suspect that the Flames have a take it or leave it deal on the table.
My bold prediction is that Buffalo capitulates to Eichel, let's him get the surgery he wants, and he stays a Sabre. There was mention this weekend that Eichel's camp went back to the Sabres with additional information regarding his health and the surgery option. I think this is Eichel's team seeing that nothing is likely to happen soon with a trade, so they are giving Adams a way out of the corner. Adams can now agree to the surgery citing new information, claim due diligence, and save some face. The only thing is that I suspect this is also an insurance issue and the owner might be the ones, more so than Adams, who are more apprehensive about the situation.

How about we enjoy that as fans for a while?

He's a wing, he's got a lot of good press around him at the moment and we're a team without a #1 C if I've been reading the threads on CP correctly. Aren't we hamstrung from moving forward until we land a 1C?

I posted what I heard live in the wrong thread but it really doesn’t sound like anything is close to happening but the Flames were mentioned with the Knights as the most interested. What I found intriguing was the mention Anaheim has cooled because if anything I got the vibe they were being presented as the front runner recently

My guess is that anything mentioning Anaheim might actually leak from Buffalo.
Puts pressure on Calgary and Vegas since they are in-division.
And Anaheim has the most attractive assets of the group in Zegras, Drysdale, and Marchment.
Try to make the other teams think Anaheim might move one of those guys.

I’ve been uncharacteristically optimistic about Eichel this whole time. I don’t know why, but I feel very confident that we are the team that gets the deal done.

Karlsson was not a deadline deal, but he was an expiring contract and it was pretty clear the Sens couldn’t or didn’t want to pay him what he wanted. So the parameters are a bit different.

I want Eichel for no other reason than to see him play with Gaudreau for a bunch of games without feeling dirty about cheering for Team USA. It would be magical I bet.

I get that. I just don't think that trading 25 year olds that are on the rise is the way to build a franchise. We need a 31 C, but we also need other talent.

I suspect Monahan playing on the 4th line is connected to this. Don't want him hurt, but don't want him out of the lineup when he can still help out on the PP. Also gives the team a chance to showcase a player like Dube in the middle who may also be part of the package. Things are getting interesting. I don't think Sutter has Monahan where he's at unless given instructions to put him in bubble wrap.

Monahan started the season with Mangiapane & Dube, got rocked twice by bigger players and now is with guys who can shield him a bit. He's recovered from surgeries, but i would imagine still at risk to a degree. Likely being sheltered in that respect for now. Regardless I doubt his slotting is in any way asset protection for a trade.

Monahan really needs to bulk up and nut up then. He's 6'3", he's not a Johnny or Andrew.
A man his size shouldn't be running away from Kassian hits.
Wouldn't hurt to get angry now and then.

That makes perfect sense and is more likely the case than any other posting I have seen.

^^ He's never been what I would call a rugged player. Tough, certainly. We know he can play through pain, but he doesn't like to muck it up. Other players will take advantage of that. Maybe less so if Lucic is out there with him for more than half his ice time
