Lol. Ok.

I said that Sutter was probably right, that had Kylington not committed to Wilson, he would have had a play on the goal scorer.

But I am going to stick with the narrative, that more often than not, the defenseman takes the guy driving the zone with the puck and tries to seal him into the boards.

I'm also going to stick to the narrative that Kylington had his man on that play, and that one of the backchecking forwards could have and should have picked up the goal scorer.

All of that can be true simaltaneously. And also, you may be surprised, and I'm not syaing Sutter is necessarily wrong here, but the best coaches in the league aren't always right.

Yeah Francis has thought for a while that his stirring the pot and trying to fire off some clever question or hot takes to Sutter now or any Flames coach in the past, is going to make him some sort of controversial personality that people love to hate but networks will be climbing over to hire.

Overall entertaining game today. Probably more bad than good I would say, but more importantly they got the win against an excellent opponent. Lot of bending but not breaking in the third there.

The first line as usual was the offensive catalyst. Looks like they haven’t skipped a beat from what they did last season. Absolutely love Lindholm’s start so far. I remember thinking last year, the one thing he needed to work on was his one timers because he flubbed a bunch of them.

Looks like he has done just that because the pucks have been on his stick and off stick right to the back of the net. I thought, he might have an outside shot at 40. But with this hot start, he might be starting down 50+ if this line keeps it going.

Darryl really needs to figure out his second line though. He got lucky today because the Caps were really pouring it on late. But without a reliable second line, winning simply won’t be sustainable. The top line, as great as they are, just won’t be able do it every single night. Mangiapane and Backlund is a good pairing, perhaps with Dube, that trio can make a form a formidable one-two punch. Regardless of what Darryl goes with, hopefully he figures it out quick.

Usually on a goal against, there is more than one breakdown. And that was the case on the Cap's 2nd goal.

1) Kylington over committed to the oroginal puck carrier, and took himself out of the play (as Sutter said, it was a zone play)

2) The forward (was it Monahan?) didn't have the trailer, or that part of the ice covered

3) That forced Tanev to make a decision, and he chose to cut off the passing lane instead of challenging the shooter

4) that allowed the shooter to walk in and beat Vladar clean to the stick side.

Sutter was asked a question about Kylington, so he mentioned that play

Fun game to watch- lots of physicality. The flames fan pessimist in me thought we’d lose. Lindy is soooo good.

This was more of a blanket statement for all the negative nellies about every single Valimaki miscue.

He is the whipping boy these days and it just irks me how impatient some can be.

Kylington is a shinning example that we need to be more patient, especially with young dmen.

Not everyone is Makar, Hughes, Hieskanen or Fox.

Most dmen take til their mid-to-late 20s to hit their stride in the NHL.

Guy is on the boards with the puck...you don't chase him and leave the middle wide open. It's not the worst mistake ever but it's not the right play. Darryl also said he was really good with the puck.

Ya sorry, I came across harsher than I wanted. My last line wasn't aimed at you per se.

just watched - it wasn't Monahan. He was on the far side and in good position

Lucic was well behind the play

It's such a weird play. I can see the argument that Kylington playing more of a zone there would have saved the play in retrospect, but I still see it as the right read with the expectation that Monahan is overloading the strongside.

It's true that I don't know exactly what Sutter is asking for in this situation, but usually with him there's an element of trusting your teammates in his style of play - having everyone on a string and playing aggressively. Similar to how even though penalty killing is about being outnumbered, you need to attack the puck carrier if it looks like they don't have full control.

Kylington playing the zone would have been the opposite of trusting his teammates. It would have been more of a Kris Russell / Bob Hartley passive style than a Darryl Sutter / Drew Doughty aggressive style.

I dunno.

Ah okay, Well, my laptop has no sound and other than the fact that I am deaf. Sutter is a little harder for me to lipread than some. I have been around long enough to know Sutter is a master of quips!

I'd assume Sutter knows what hes asking for in that situation so I'd go with Sutters assessment of the play.
