So Chu was gonna win in a cakewalk if it weren’t for the scandal and even then it wasn’t enough.

Yeah. It shows how little of a chance DJ had of actually winning. His only hope would've been if the story dropped just a day or two early so there was more awareness.

Just so much to be mad about.

Who were the people that voted for him after that came out?

The same ones that are adamant this is all a left wing plot to get one of the few conservatives off of council?

There is dual protests at city hall one to resign and one to defend Chu.
I guess after protests at hospitals I shouldn’t be surprised a sex offender has people ready to march for him.

My guess is it'll be about 20:1 on the ratio. I've heard of about 20-40 people being pro-Chu.

I watched at bit of western standards election coverage. It’s a culture war. Doesn’t matter how you shake it. It’s an us vs them mentality and all hands on deck against this socialist machine.

As much as I detest Chu, if he resigns, what could he be possibly do for a living at this point? No way he resigns.

Work for a church? He’d fit right in. Or is 16 too old for them.

People like that always seem to resurface somewhere, he's probably eligible for a couple pensions by now as well.
If Kevin Johnstone can get people to campaign for him then anything is possible.

I can't get over the people claiming this was a "political assassination" or "politically motivated".
It's hard to imagine a greater act of political cynicism than voting for someone you know is an awful person just to make sure you have your guy on council who can "own the libs" or whatever.
Sick and hypocritical.

Guy already has multiple pensions from the CPS and Council. Retire and go away quietly would be my recommendation.

The guy is almost 60 years old, those 2 pensions should make retirement very comfortable.

Unless you saw the news in passing somewhere and follow municipal events like a hawk, most people would have not known of the Sean Chu incidents by election due to how fresh the revelations were.
I saw Sean Chu memes on reddit and didn't know what it meant, and I frequent reddit and this forum very frequently.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Calgary/com..._34_16_resign/
I don't follow municipal politics closely (I know very little about the candidates in my ward). Chu had name familiarity by being the incumbent councillor, and has a strong backing from the chinese community. The incumbent always has a strong advantage in municipal elections.
The gag order and the system protecting a police officer's transgressions is the problem, not the voters. People can vote however they wish, no matter how uninformed they are, that's the democratic system.
He was elected prior to this, when he should never have been close to being allowed to run.

Why?
I know better than to ask you that.
Did you ever look into the way Chu voted on police reform? You said you were interested. Or was that just another fly-by piece without any merit or real forethought to promote your crappy agenda?

Because I've met Fuzz and he's as white as they come.
How is it that I have a 'crappy agenda' when all I'm suggesting is that maybe Police shouldnt be able to just do whatever they want to whoever they want without any consequences?
I dont think asking for an end to Police coverups is all that patently unreasonable.
