http://www.cbc.ca/story/arts/national/2004...word041214.html

"HAGERSTOWN, MD. - Retail giant Wal-Mart is being sued for selling an album by Evanescence that includes the f-word.

The suit, filed in a Maryland court, alleges that Wal-Mart sold the CD – which did not have a parental-advisory sticker – knowing the profanity is used in one of the songs. "

I love when parents are under the impression that they can shield their kids from every "evil" in life. That merely hearing the f-bomb will turn their son into the spawn of Satan, or a condom machine automatically means your daughter will become pregnant. Kids find things out on their own, and to me the best thing to do explain that these "evils" exist, and how to deal with them. "Turtling" or pretending they don't exist just seems like a receipe for failure.

Want to bet $50 she hasn't heard the F-bomb on the playground there Dad? It's not like she was listening to Chris Rock or something, I think Evanescence drops it like 2-3 times on that disc.

well, its in the excited states for one thing

and i agree, the poor parent has to pretect little timmy and susie, and god forbid they hear a naughty word! why, they might grow up to be adults who spill hot coffee on themselves and then sue because its 'too' hot.

I can almost guarantee that buddy sees the $$ in his eyes, and thats the sole motivation.

Walmart, especially in the States prides itself on being the "white" in white bread (or trash, whatever), and has had many fights with artists over content...with artists changing lyrics to get the mass distrubtion that only Walmart can provide. Walmart also prides itself on having no offensive music that anyone can buy.

This guy is an opportunist, like the guy going to Bruger King, and more excited (at the settlement) then disgusted when he finds a mouse tail in his Whopper.

Good, that's what wal-mart gets for censoring all the cds they sue. People start to count on it and one slips through. They have only themselves to blame!

I don't like people who sue at the first chance they get for some trivial thing, and I don't like Walmart... so I hope the man win's his lawsuit for like a billion dollars and the judge orders the money to go to charity. yes, that would do just fine.

I believe I can speak on behalf of Walmat (unofficially of course), despite hating the store thinking it's an evil corporation but....

The same sort of thing happens in Canada. Aren't there laws in Canada that protect against frivulous (sp?) lawsuits such as this?

I used to think these people were stupid but i've definitely changed my tune over the last little while. Our system that we have in place allows for this sort of garbage to go through it and even win sometimes, so why not try it? It's like it's designed to cater to the stupidest people out there that can't think for themselves as it basically holds others responsible for these people's actions. I remember a lawsuit a while back some lady filed against a bar because she drove home drunk and the bartender didn't take her keys away from her. He only offered to call a cab. Not sure how it ended up, but the fact it even made it's way to the courts shows how dumb the system is.

Heck, when i'm old and have a year to kill i'll go find something so insignificant and stupid in a big rich company to file a lawsuit over. Like reading an erotic thriller from Indigo Books and suing for emmotional distress or citing racist tendencies in a lawsuit against Staples because they only sell white fullscap...

Walmart should be sued for carrying Evanescence, period.

Oh thats money in the bank baby!! Bust seriously, I am so with you on this its not even funny. The vast majority of people on this planet are stupid and we are continually brought down to their level and continue to pay the price (through ridiculous legislation, insurance premiums etc etc) for their stupidity. I mean, why do we need a warning on my cup of Timmy's that the contents are hot? Really? You mean when I buy a cup of Joe, its HOT? No way! Or why is their a warning on Preperation H to "not take orally". Come on, if you're THAT stupid, you deserve to eat a tube of Preperation H.

My latest channel for my anger is the guy in the states (shocking, I know) who is sueing Ford (Ithink) because he left his infant son in his car and forgot about him, leaving him there to die. His thinking is that Ford should have a warning device built in to the seat to remind him that he has forgotten to take the mot important, fragile, precious thing in his life out of his car. The ridiculousness will never end.

Yeah this is a money grabbing scheme.

I wonder if WMT can counter with a "could he have pealed the sticker off in the car" arguement.

These cases are plain absurd. Its like supermarkets here (and very probably there too) having to put warnings on bags of peanuts that they "may contain nuts".

The whole court culture has to stop, apart from these pathetic warnings everywhere its having much realer effects in places like schools where teachers are scared to take classes on field trips in case something happens and they get sued.

As long as they keep the pictures of her up, I'll be happy with that.

Don't care too much for Amy Lee's music, but shes hot.
