I might actually go and see Dune in the theatres myself, am genuinly interested to see it
I’m a huge Hans Zimmer junkie, and it’s been killing me to not listen to the soundtrack. But I really want to see the movie and hear it together for the first listen.
Guess I’m flicking on the Interstellar soundtrack again today.
Almost done my Halloween franchise rewatch, just watched Rob Zombies Halloween and I actually think it's pretty good. Doesn't try to copy the first one too much, but does have some nods to the original. If you enjoy Zombies other movies you will probably also like this one, felt like House of 1000 corpses meets Michael Myers at times. I think this one will develop a cult following and I can see the narrative about this film changing. Only got one left and it's the sequel to this one.
We need a better theatre in or near downtown. Chinook is a dump and has no recliners, Eau Claire is a dump and has no recliners. Market Mall is fine but not that close, only has 5 screens and parking at the mall near Christmas is a disaster.

It wasn't as fun as the old ones, and wasn't much of improvement in other regards. Didn't like the plot...they never actually get to the tournament. Just a bunch of messing around with training beforehand. They also missed Sub-Zero's character. They killed off a bunch of the main characters unceremoniously. Maybe they were setting up for a sequel? Kind of odd, as they didn't have one in place at the time of the movie, and it might never get made. You'd think they would have more of self-contained story.
What made the MK arcade games was the mood, tone, and visuals. The movies never seem to get that right.
I thought Dune was fantastic. It really captures the essence of the book. The grand spaceships and the sands of Arrakis.
Dune could be my favourite Sci Fi book of all time and I really enjoyed this movie.
The visuals were stunning, the characters all great and it really draws you into the story.
I have a question, since you’ve read the book.
Why can’t they kill the worms? They’ve been there for 80 years, and haven’t figured out how to deploy some bunker buster bombs on the these giant behemoths that appear to be the only threat to their multi billion dollar operation?

What’s your single favorite Zimmer track?

I'm struggling with how I felt about Dune, everything I absolutely loved about Bladerunner really annoyed me with Dune. The pacing and the score especially. Ultimately I really didn't connect with the film, just like the 1984 Lynch version. I can't imagine the mostly 20 something year old kids in the theater last night were absorbing the dialogue and the intricacies in the script, I can't imagine what they got out of it besides the visuals. The most entertaining aspect for me was comparing the shots and scenes from the original to what can be done in 2021.
Villeneuve is still one of my favorite directors, I remember loving every second of Bladerunner 2049 and soaking up every second. Hitting a 10:30PM showing after being up at 5AM for work was also rough, I have to consider that wasn't ideal for this type of film. I had a hunch I wasn't going to to enjoy it, still going to give it another viewing and another shot.

A good portion of the first half of the movie should have been following Jason Momoa as he tried to contact the Fremen and convince them to meet with the Duke.
That way, we could’ve seen how dangerous the planet was, and how one survives, and learned why Javier Bardem would even show up for the meeting.
Would’ve been a lot more showing, and a lot less telling via awkward expository dialogue, which is always a trap to avoid when making movies like this.

Admittedly knew pretty much nothing about Dune before watching it.
It was fine, but I didn't realize there would be no conclusion. How many of these will there be now to complete the story?
Kind of annoying watching 2.5 hours of a movie and not getting a real conclusion to the story.
Villineuve made the decision to split the first Dune book in half, so ideally, WB will greenlight the 2nd movie so at least the entirety of the 1st book will be covered and provide a 'conclusion' of sorts to Dune (book one)
I think DV was thinking of a trilogy, that would cover the first 2 books...its been a long time since I read the first 3 books however, so not sure what is lost if the 3rd book isn't turning into a movie
